[CQ] MX 2300

This copier has prob with yellow & magenta, very pale color ,cyan & black are perfect ,there is only 10k color copies on it but the machine is 5 years old now, so i changed the color develloper and it fixed the prob right away, my question: is there a time for the dev to be change ,i know that it is suppose to be 60 k, but 5 years old machine that don't do much color copies could give that kind of prob?

I know that the mfp is using color when doing calibration. I had machines with a 200 color counter but a lot of b/w asking for new toner cartridge.

60k on color dv or 2 years whichever comes first

Just on a theoretical level, developer will lose it's tribo-electric qualitites for two main reasons:

1) inactivity over time (lack of agitation).
2) wear of the resin coating on the developer particles (much agitation).

With all due respect we need to remember that his cyan is just fine. Same age? Different quality? Unlikely. I've had developer sit on the shelf for 5 years and still function just fine.

I suspect we are looking at a machine that never received the mods for the high voltage contact cases. Classic symptoms.

What are the mods that you're talking about?
when i changed the dev i remark that all colors had the same reading except for the magenta dvlc - 128
dvlm - 89
dvly - 128

And all of a sudden few second before it finished the mixing, all of them were at 128

I would not expect all DV to go south at exactly the same time. It is possible that the yellow started to go before the magenta. Drums do not always show the same amount of wear, although they have been in the machine the same amount of time and copies.

Yes, I have always heard that DV and drums had a shelf life, but I would also expect that DV in a sealed container will tend to stay better longer than DV in a DV unit mixed with toner and agitated every so often.

Unless there is some other problem with the machine, I believe the copier was an oversell and will never reach the 60K color PM. We have a couple of oversells in my company as well.

I have this happen on this series every once in awhile. Run sim 25-1 for 30 seconds to a minute on the color(s) that are faded out and see what happens. I have done this several (5 or 6) times and it solved my issue every time.

As long as it's still sealed it's fine. Oxidation starts taking place once it's opened. Might go 3 years or more. I wouldn't change it until it needs it though.

If the LSU Shutter solenoid is compromised the LSU shutters will not open all the way. Since they are opened by a moving slider each color shutter opens with a slight delay in order of KCMY. The black (K) shutter opens completely before yellow has opened all the way. Basically if the solenoid plunger does not pull in completely the shutters will not open all the way and you will start to lose colors in the order of Yellow, Magenta, Cyan then Black. Since the shutters are plastic they can also warp. This means you can lose portions of each color if the shutter is not fully open. A slightly bowed shutter can block a color at the front and rear while allowing the Laser to penetrate at the center point.
A common test to check if you have a shutter problem is to simply remove them. If quality returns, you have a shutter problem. FYI, not recommended to leave them removed as other issues can occur over time, but it is a good test.

Note: on the next generation Sharp ie. MX-2600N the shutter operation was changed and the shutters open in the opposite sequence from Black to Yellow. The same issue on that model would cause you to lose Black first.
