8508/8518 fuser scrapers, back order. Solution?

6LK42546000 ASYS-SCRAPER-10-45-H38X apparently is on back order.
Most of the time, when rebuilding a fuser, the teflon is scratched, causing the toner to build up
on the scraper, which then digs into the fuser belt requiring replacement.
Had an idea. I peeled off the teflon tape that covers the scraper and stuck on a strip of
"plumbers tape". (no sticky tape substance). It's VERY thin. Then after install, adjusted
the gap per the manual. I've got a test mule running with it for over an hour. It's holding
up quite well. I've got the fuser out letting it cool, then will try it again.
Not a permanent fix, but, at least I can get some fusers rebuilt and back in circulation.

Good luck with that. For a while I was using the teflon "thermistor tape" that you can buy. It does not stick well enough and peels off. One of my more alert customers snagged the page that it stuck to, and saved it for me. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Search the googles for Kapton tape as an alternative but you can get Teflon tape in various widths from tons of places online.

A roll of it in a good width is one of those things I recommend you have in the trunk stock.

Found a roll of teflon tape, 1" wide, 500 degree thermal range online.
Cut it in half. Fits perfectly. Just readjust the gap per the specs and of
course 2 days later our order of 2 dozen scrapers shows up.
