Re: Toshiba 5560c copy quality problem

When you close the right door, the bearings on the second transfer roller align with plastic receivers/insulators on the primary transfer belt unit. Slamming the door can result in one or both of those insulators breaking. When this happens one or both ends of the second transfer roller can wander away from the facing roller on the primary transfer belt unit. Just stopping or starting the machine or opening/closing the door can change that roller position.

You will not have much luck repairing that insulator. Using all my plastic modeling skills, epoxy and SPC wire ... it will still re-break the moment that you close the door.

    Here are the database entries:

    e Studio 5520C, 6520C, 6530C, Broadpeak
    • Light prints and copies affecting all colors. Poor second transfer.
    • Facing roller rear bearing holder is broken. Attempts to glue are unsuccessful.
    • Replace Facing Roller Rear Bearing Holder (6LH03815000), Transfer Belt (6LH03981000), and TBU Kit (6LH16899000).

    e Studio 5560CT, 6560CT, 6570CT, BPX MKII
    • Light prints and copies affecting all colors, mainly towards the front of the machine. Worm shaped voids and wrinkles. Poor second transfer.
    • Facing roller front bearing holder is broken. Lower part is missing/gone.
    • Replace Facing Roller Front Bearing Holder (6LH03814000). Perform color calibration.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Ensure that the 2nd transfer roller on the door, is actually at ground potential. I've seen a couple of those
where the ground gets off, and can affect CQ.
When you open the door and check it, give the entire assemble a good shake, including the 2nd transfer roller
        to make sure it's stable.

Re: Toshiba 5560c copy quality problem/ resolved

          Problem resolved!

Found a piece of plastic debris in the left side link arm that holds the 2nd transfer roller in place..this caused the roller to wander of sometimes on one side.

Looks like a piece from the transfer roller holder on the ITB belt

Introduced in 2014, Toshiba Tec will stop supporting this model series likely by Aug 2023.

Time to make moves to upgrade this copier to something current.

Customers are more than happy to let you spend all of your time and money on parts to keep this old copier working. Unless you are billing them for time and materials now, you are probably losing money.

The "trick" I always do when a customer is stubbon and won't upgrade from a EOL machine is to let em wait.
Instead of responding to a call as timely as possible, I'll let it stew a while. I might show up at the end of the
day, or wait til the next day.
Some times you have to dangle the bait in the water, to get them to bite at it.

... I would wait several days, maybe a week before returning for service and blame the delay on parts are getting hard to get on this discontinued copier.

I would make sure to let them know that all electronic boards, hard drives and developer compounds are no longer under service contract.

Yes i am aware of this, the reason i still use them is ink and supplies cost.
I run a print shop and have 3 of them running everyday printing everything from manuals to business cards etc.

Service is done by me since y am a copier tech myself.

btw what model do you recommend as upgrade from this model? same speed and cuality and maybe a fiery box option?

Toshiba will be refreshing it's high end product line in early 2023 with the e6527AC. A 55 cpm version will not be offered. Toshiba no longer offers a Fiery option.

Overall, Toshiba's are not great in Print Shops that intend to print a lot of business cards because they cannot print duplex print 110 lb cover via any paper source in one go. You have to pass the sheet twice through the bypass. This creates all kinds of opportunities for registration errors front and back.

... and the tell-tale pickup roller smudge in the center of the page, where it rubs some of the first-side print onto the next page backside. These users must be made to understand that they're going to have to throw away some of those business cards down the center of the page. There's nothing that can be done to prevent that. =^..^=
