Toshiba 450 Harsh Fuser Noises and Vibration

    Hey guys,

I have a very weird noise coming out of the fuser (which I think it is coming from) when the machine is making copies. I'm not really sure what it could be being that when I take the fuser out and inspect everything, it all looks great. I tripped the interlock with the transport door open and the noise still was happening and it felt apparent that it was the fuser.

I purchased the manuals for this machine from manuals4you while back and I am trying to locate where the output mode is for this machine, but I cannot find it.

Can someone help me if you've run into this problem and might know what to look for? The sound is like a harsh vibration that you can feel on the cover of the fuser.

If anyone knows which service code to enter for the output mode that would be awesome too.

    Thanks

Sounds like the fuser roller is flat spotted. Rebuild it with a OEM Kit, and make sure the energy saver is set to an appropriate level so it doesn't cook prematurely. If the heat roller (hard roller not soft) looks wore or has toner built up on it it's time to rebuild anyway. I have used Katun kits and they fell apart long before they were supposed to, OEM kits will run past their due date by half a cycle a lot of times. Just my experience though.

If you cheat the duplex door (finger in hole against metal tab at upper back end of the door) and then flip down the pressure release levers while it is running you'll probably notice the vibration diminishes.
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

You know that's a good point. I know that the fuser has been rebuilt, but I'm not sure just how long ago....
I did drop the duplexer, but didn't think far enough to release the pressure levers.. *doh*

I'm not sure if its a flat spot issue because I don't hear the typical knocking and tapping associated with that type of a problem (Ricoh's are famous for that).
When this noise comes about, it's very consistent and harsh. Almost like the sound of a flipped blade in the PCU (Ouch!) I know that the fuser rollers are different in the Toshiba's than in most other makes of copiers. Is it possible that the UHR can make vibration noises when worn out? Aarghh, I'm not a fan of noises being that they are almost impossible to track down without throwing parts at them.

Thank you so much for your help

Seems like your pressure roller has a flat spot. When you make a all text copy, are you getting a stretched image on the lead edge?

          Hey Travis,

No, I'm not getting a stretched image on the lead edge. The copy quality is coming out great. I suppose that I should just rebuild the fuser and see where that goes. What do you guys think?

I have had the exit rollers make a lot of noise on these... but yes usually you'll get a thumping noise with a Lower flat spot. You would probably see the pressure release levers bouncing up and down with the flat spot(s.)
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

It sure sounds like one of the Upper or Lower Bearings is locked up. Usually, if the Exit Roller is binding (which they do on that model), you'll also get a serious and frequent JAM on that model, so I don't think it's Exit Roller related.

                It's very easy!!!!
Remove the fuser and check it by your self,if something is demaged or any srew is left inside the fuser.
Check the gears of the fuser and the gears of drive motor and try to roll the fuser gears by youself.
Sometimes looks like the noise comes from fuser and it happens in developer unit or drum gears.
