    [CQ] Light copies ES 4540c

    Hi All,
Boss has gotten a few , used, E Studio 4540c and wants to put them out in the field. I got stuck getting them ready. I am NOT Toshiba trained, Ricoh yes. Problem is I have 1 machine I cannot get the density up on. I even changed developer in the dev unit and did all the settings in the manual to set the dev units. Drums are newish and same with transfer belt. I checked all the developer gaps and such so they are OK. If I put some toner from the cartridge into the Developer units, the density goes up nicely.

Did successfully do a developer replacement on 2 other units.

Question. Can you do a forced feed on these units so increase the toner ratio in the developer unit and then set the developer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it have the smooth mag roller? The Toshibas with the smooth mag rollers can experience "developer slip" or light/blurry areas of the print. You don't need to vacuum out the black developing unit. Just wipe the developer to one side with a dry towel, and scuff the surface with one of those green scrubbies. Then wipe the developer back to the scuffed side and repeat. Rotate the mag roller to reveal a new area and repeat until you've scuffed the entire roller. You'll have to re-do the calibration. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thank you Blackcat. I will do this and see the results. But still is there any way to force feed a Toshiba?

Did you reset any counters in the PM support mode?
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

You're best not to add more toner to the dev than it should have.
If you have light prints / copies there's probably an underlying reason, this could be anything from a simple reset the gamma tables (08 - 7300) & then setup all the IQC & Gamma again. Through to a dirty LSU (dusty mirrors), poor charge on the 1st transfer rollers (in the transfer belt unit) - the non-contact end block (ie the one which doesn't have a wire) should NOT be able to conduct a charge - i've seen them leak charge & cause very light copies.
The charge blocks on the rear frame (behind the laser shutter) sometimes get a hair-line crack which causes either C970 errors or sometimes starts as feint copies (i fix this with nail varnish)
The transfer belt breaking down (sometimes can look perfectly ok) will cause light copies.
A bad earth on the leaf spring at the end of the 2nd transfer roller - the spring sits against a bearing (the roller doesn't have charge, it has an earth)
A bearing missing from 2nd transfer (there are 2 you can see, but also 2 hidden inside black plastic housings on the roller) - this is common when an engineer has serviced the 2nd tr & vacuumed the bearing up or dropped it & lost it.

              Regards.

Thank you for the information. I will inspect and clean all items and do the gamma tables. Thank you for the information. Much appreciated.
