If the drum goes almost all the way in but stops about 0.5 inches short of making it, then either the drum itself, the drive for the drum or both are not at home position.

If it gets stuck anywhere almost immediately to a little over half way in, then the pressing roller is in the released position at one or both ends. To correct the problem you have to push the roller back down until it latches. During normal the flanges of the drum are what push the roller back down. I had this problem at school once.

The drum barely goes in, less than a quarter.

check the distances between the drum and the rest of the mechanisms while inserting it, if the roller is raised the drum should not come out, check for any bent metal parts.

No bent parts...pressing the roller front or back does not seem to make any difference. Cause the roller is hard does not go down much to the press.

are you sure the pressure roller is on top? What else have you tried to do?

Could the customer have released the drum lock?

This would cause the Drum Unit to be rotated and not in the locking position, causing it to stumble.
With the Unit outside, place it on a table and try to turn the drum, if it rotates it is NOT blocked. Turn it until the drum is locked and insert it back into the device.
