    Designjet 1050 won't load paper

When I feed the roll in, I push the paper through and pull it tight. When I close the pinch rollers it starts to pull the paper back. It gets just to the pinch rollers, and the paper stops ... but the rollers continue to roll. The paper is not able to be sucked up anymore than just to the pinch rollers.

I should have taken a video, because I don't think I'm explaining it well.

I had a Canon iPF-710 with this problem.

I had ordered a printhead a few days ago, and when I returned to install it there was ~#5 of soggy ceiling tile on top of the printer. In my absence (actually about 2 hours before my arrival), a roof leak caused the ceiling to drop into the Canon. Building maintenance had already cleaned up the floor, walls, carpet, and changed the tiles.

The first #4 of muck removed easily enough. It was about the consistency of grey mashed potatoes. The last #1 was much more difficult, and dangerous. To my surprise, the white smooth surface of the tile is very hard and sharp, and cut up my hands.

Once I got the stuff that could be grabbed and the paper still would not pass, I found a 36" x 36" piece of cardboard and curved it along the corrugations. With the handle open I shoved the cardboard through the paper path, getting the solids, but leaving the watery mush. Then the paper fed through. The first 40" had really cool Rorschach patterns in grey.

On another occasion I arrived to see the tradesmen cleaning up after putting up some really nice knotty pine in the office with the Canon iPF. Yes, there was a piece of trim in the paper path.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      I guess I didn't explain it well.

The paper gets through the paper path. But as the machine is trying to find the leading edge (as it sucks the paper back into the machine to find the registration) it gets stuck, just under the pinch rollers.

Try loading a cut sheet of paper.. 11x17 if you have it, and see if that succeeds. It could simply be the paper sensor.

But the paper won't even get to the sensor. It won't rewind far enough.

I wonder about those little white wheels down by the paper roll. On this machine, you curl the paper around that black wheel, past a couple of white rollers, and it goes up and into the machine, then pops out by the pinch rollers. If those white rollers are supposed to pull the paper back, maybe they're not turning.

If you feel a roll of paper all the way through, and lower the handles, then tug on the paper.. if it's got a grip on it, then I'd say it's not a roller issue. My suggestion to load a cut sheet of paper is because it loads from the platen and is pulled in. I just thought it might tell you more.

You may have a problem with the clutch on the left end that the carriage engages when rewinding the paper. If it doesn't have a springy feel to it when you press it down.. it could be broken. Or (I think) there's a tab on the carriage that makes contact with the clutch arm; if that tab is broken off, it won't engage the clutch. I thought I had something with more information on the clutch but I can't find it.

It was the plastic clutch arm that was broken.
