    Designjet T100 Lubrication

Plotter is getting intermittent Carriage Jam messages on the panel. I just replaced the encoder strip and it was working fine while I was there. I didn't encounter any Carriage Jam messages. The manual shows how to lubricate the carriage, however, it doesn't say what kind of grease to use, nor is there a lubrification kit. Anyone know what kind of grease should be used?

    Thanks! Carriage Jam.jpg

I think I found the kit in the T730/T830 manual which uses the (essentially) same carriage. The lubrication instructions in the T730/T830 are exactly the same as in the T100/T500 manual. Looks like part number CQ890-60244 for the Friction repair Kit (lubrication kit).

Since I discovered it I've been using Canon EU-1 carriage rail oil (part #: FY9-6028-000)

There seem to be two schools of thought on this. One group will tell you that you can use any light oil (I've even heard of techs using fuser oil).

I am in the second group. I had a Designjet that I was getting persistent carriage movement errors. I cleaned all the lubrication off, then tried TriFlow. More errors. To make a long story shorter, after using several different types of oil, a tech told me about EU-1, made for Canon plotters. I cleaned off all the previous lubricants, and applied 6 or 8 drops of EU-1, and it was fixed. From that day on I use nothing but EU-1.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Nice! Thanks blackcat! That's no doubt what's in this lub kit I ordered. Wasn't real expensive. Love Item, Inc too! Purchase from them regularly. They don't seem to have it in stock at the moment.

Just got the kit. The part number on the syringe kit is 6040-1346. If you look that number up, the best website I could find is:

Lubricating Equipment Exports from World - Volza

CTRL-F the website for that part number.

Not really helpful. Just thought it was interesting.

I tried asking my contact at HP but they're not sure what the actual grease is either. I thought it looked like white lithium grease, but I haven't seen it straight from the lubrication kit.

I can't tell from the data sheet what is, but it mentioned PFPE/PTFE which is not lithium grease.
