    HP P3005x Drive noise and formatter board questions

    Hi everyone, I`m wondering if anyone can help me with some questions I have.

    I have 2 HP P3005x printers, one has a error code 49? which on ivestigation leads me to the formatter board, I have swapped it with another one and it works fine, this machine is not under any sort of contract with us so the price isn`t a issue, i.e, I don`t need to try and do it on the cheap, baking etc. My question is, if I do replace the board, do I need to do anything else, firmware etc?

    Second question, I have another printer same model, with a loud noise coming from the drive/exit sensor, I understand that the gears can get worn/skip when driving the fuser, my question is, can anyone tell me the part numbers for these gears? I have changed some a long time ago but on a different model, a 24 something? and was wondering if there are the same part.

    I am a trained engineer, but only stumble across HP everynow and then, any help/tips would be greatfully appreciated.

      No, you can just install the PWB and be done with it.

      There's another thing to keep in mind though. A lot of 49.xxxx codes are caused by corrupt print data, that's all. So, that leads us into a couple of questions:
      Under what circumstances do you get the codes? Often it's a specific document, a specific application, or a specific driver. The first thing that I'd do is delete the existing print driver and re-install it from a fresh download. If you can narrow it down even further to a specific document that's even better.

      I remember a specific case where the codes only occurred when printing from a web based document storage application. The documents printed fine before being stored, but not so after being stored. Just a thought ...

      You'll need one each of these part numbers: RC1-3609-020, RC1-3610-000, RU5-0956-000, RU5-0957-000, RU5-0958-000, RU5-0959-000. They are sold as a kit from http://tsaworld.com/ under part number: KP3005X

      I use many of these kits. They include the four drive gears on the frame, the pressure roller gear, and the pressure roller bushings, all of which will need changing.

      And no, they're not the same as the 24xx series. =^..^=

      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Hi, thanks very much for your quick and helpful reply.

          What you was saying about the board is interesting, although I`m not sure if it applies to this problem, I have taken the board off another machine (the one with the noisy gears) and it works fine, printing from all programs etc, it does lock up at different times etc, on start up, 10 minutes later, etc, plus it locked up with no jobs going to it with the network cable unplugged, I think I will order up the board and see how it goes.

              That rules out corrupt print data. The formatter is what you need. =^..^=

                      When you install the drive gear kit (4 gears listed above) do not lubricate the gears. They are not compatible with the 2400 series. Most lubricants will actually cause the grinding to come back quicker than if you just leave them grease free.

                      FYI the formatters for the P3005/ M3027/ M3035 are all very unreliable and you definitely need a new one.

                          FYI: If, after you replace all the gears in this POS!!!
                          And STILL have a 'RUM RUM RUM RUM RUM ' noise, it's NOT the gears or fuser. What it is, is that the lower left metal tab that the lower left hole of the fuser screws to is flexing. This is if the noise happens immediately on high speed in the forward direction.
                          I fixed mine by JAMMING a Q-tip shaft into the loose (about 1/16") space between that tab and the side frame. In order to get it to fit, I had to pry the tab inward long enough to slip the q-tip stem(shaft) into the gap. VOILA!! Now it does not sound like a POS, even though it STILL IS!!!
                          SHAME on HP for inflicting this misery upon the world.

                              Never seen a frame vibration in that particular model before. Usually vibrations are caused by fan coming loose. Lol nothing like the q-tip fix! How much are you charging him for the q-tip ! Glad your found it finally!

                                  Which gears did you replace and did you replace them at the same time as you replaced the fuser? For all those reading this post you normally need the following 4 gears plus the fuser when fixing the rumble! They NEED to be changed everytime you replace the fuser to minimize the rumbling noise.

                                      What part of 'when all else fails' didn't you see? Yes, replaced ALL those, PLUS more stuff.
