Meanwhile the USA just approved the Moderna vaccine and secured millions of doses of from Pfizer. Looking good for us.

... the USA has 2% of the world's population yet 20% of the world's COVID-19 infection rates exceeding 19M citizens and over 319,000 COVID-19 related deaths. Yesterday,a new record 3,500 citizens died due to COVID.

Canada has signed supply contracts with seven different COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers including Moderna.

President Trump's threat to veto the COVID-19 relief bill passed last night by the Senate could totally derail the funding necessary to distribute any vaccine across the USA.

Let's keep this conversation on the up and up and leave your hatred of Trump out of it. Not everything is about Trump.

Yes, your country has singed multiple contracts for the vaccine, but as the article says, millions of your citizens are unlikely to get the vaccine for a prolonged period because they're not gonna ship Canada the vaccine before they take care of their own.

The problem for Canada is you don't have the capability to produce your own vaccine and you're at the mercy of others.

That's a major mistake by Canada and it's likely to cause unnecessary hardship for your country.

... you seem to be quoting an "opinion piece" by a Podcast writer that I never heard of before.

Maybe you should listen to the latest podcast from this author.

S2E10: In Conversation With Dr. Mike Osterholm — Michael Bociurkiw

"In this special episode, host Michael Bociurkiw speaks with top infectious disease expert Dr. Michael Osterholm - about surging coronavirus case numbers, the unpreparedness of health systems and the efficacy of new vaccines. “The coronavirus ‘forest fire’ is looking for human wood to burn. Likely well over 65-75% of the world’s populations has yet to be infected. So that’s the challenge. And unless we get vaccines to these populations as soon as possible these numbers of cases are only going to continue to increase substantially.”

I personally do not expect to be vaccinated until Aug/ Sept, Admittedly, I live in one of the lowest risk areas in the world.

My point still stands: Canada does NOT have the capability of producing it's own vaccine. That's a MAJOR problem for your country. Your country must do whatever is necessary to catch up to countries like the USA and Germany who are the leaders in this area.

There will be another pandemic at some point and Canada shouldn't be relying on other countries. That's my only point.

A closer look at Canada's homegrown COVID-19 vaccine candidates

Canada is developing its own COVID-19 vaccines and manufacturing capabilities.

... but the need is great and the demand is now. Therefore it is quicker and more effective to buy approved vaccines from around the world including the USA.

Yes, I 100% agree that the time is NOW. That's why your leaders failed Canada because they should have been prepared. I think everyone agrees with that.

You and the other Canadian love to talk about the shortcomings of the USA but have a blind spot when discussing your own failures. The bottom line is that for all the taxes you pay for healthcare that you're left relying on the USA and other countries to save you from Covid. That's never a good position to be in. For obvious reasons.

Again, thank you for your concern. It's nice to know you care.
I'm pretty sure it will all work out in the end. It is going to take countries time to vaccinate their people.

... last thursday my wife wife slipped and fell. She broke her leg in three places. An ambulance arrived in 15 minutes. She had to have surgery, be intubated under anesthesia, permanent plates in her leg. The surgeons worked for four hours. Two nights in the hospital, a cast on her leg, some medications and a return visit in three weeks. Cost $0.00 .

I am Ok with paying higher taxes in Canada.
