Has the UN done anything to you that would make you not believe them?
I won't ask you about politicians. They are all professional liars. No matter which side of the fence they are on.
Politicians and weathermen, two of the only professions where you don't have to tell the truth and you can still keep your job. And I put more trust in weathermen. lol

As an owner of restricted firearms, hand guns, I comply with and support the laws governing these.
No matter how difficult it may be for some people in society to acquire a firearm, they will find a way if they really want it.

    My one question to you is this;

What are you afraid of, if your neighbor owns a firearm and abides by the laws set forth?

by the way, you have the single most posts in this thread.
It takes a lot of daily research and posts to stay current with gun control or lack thereof in the USA. In the end, I feel the US is f...ed over the issue of gun control. There is too much money, politics, power brokering, lobbying and public opinion to change things much. I can only hope that no one on this thread is ever touched by any of the 33,000 Americans per year who needlessly lose their life at the end of a gun barrel.

Senate rejects expanded gun background checks

Washington (CNN) -- In a major defeat for supporters of tougher gun laws, the U.S. Senate on Wednesday defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on firearms sales.

The overall gun legislation includes tougher laws on gun trafficking and straw purchases, and steps to devise ways to improve safety in schools ... "at this moment, I am unsure if these three pieces of legislation has been voted on."

The NRA promised political retribution against supporters of tougher gun laws. The NRA has said an expanded background check system would be the first step toward a national gun registry and therefore a violation of the constitutional right to bear arms " .. total bullshit".

Polls show that a strong majority of Americans support some type of initiative to stem gun violence. In a CNN/ORC International poll released last week, 86% of Americans say they support expanded background checks.

The question is should guns and ammo be subjected to a SIN tax like alcohol and tobacco? Guns and ammo are equally as deadly as alcohol/tobacco in the USA and require substantial amounts of Federal, State and Municipal budgets to manage.

The answer is, in the current political climate, this is very unlikely to happen.

The next answer is as more and more Federal, State and Municipal budgets spiral out of control, expect the question to rebound sometime this year as politicians begin to rationalize that guns owners (legal/ illegal) need to pay their fair share of the costs of gun ownership.

    Re: Gun Control

I was into this thread for awhile and really enjoyed it. However, I am now weary of it. It could be debated forever. I believe every post on this topic has some valid points. I am a middle aged male with 2 grown children, 6 grandchildren, a true American patiot, a law abiding citizen, a christian and a pretty darn good tech for 25 years. I will be stopping by the sheriff's office tomorrow to pick up my concealed weapon carry permit renewal card...... Bummer, I've got 8 service calls on my list..

Over the weekend, we came four votes away from the United States Senate giving our Constitutional rights over to the United Nations. In a 53-46 vote, the Senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The Statement of Purpose from the bill read:
To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S., and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry on all private guns and ammo.
Astonishingly, 46 of our United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional rights to a foreign power.
Here are the 46 senators that voted to give your rights to the U.N.
