compared to Canada, not at all!
The 2A was never about empowering its citizens with tremendous firepower for largely purposes of personal entertainment or paranoia. Unfortunately, the NRA has been very successful at twisting the 2A original intent by appealing to those who misguidely believe the Federal gov't is somehow plotting to completely disarm them.

Re: Gun Control
LIST OF SENATORS WHO RECENTLY VOTED TO TAKE YOUR GUN AWAY!
Over the weekend, we came four votes away from the United States Senate giving our Constitutional rights over to the United Nations. In a 53-46 vote, the Senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The Statement of Purpose from the bill read:
To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S., and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry on all private guns and ammo.
Astonishingly, 46 of our United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional rights to a foreign power.
Here are the 46 senators that voted to give your rights to the U.N.

Re: Gun Control
SalesServiceGuy,
You live in Canada, on the East Coast, where we have very reasonable restrictive gun laws.
All legal firearms owners are registered and abide by the laws of the land.
As I stated before, I am a law abiding firearms owner who follows the rules and regulations set forth by our governing body.
As an owner of restricted firearms, hand guns, I comply with and support the laws governing these.
No matter how difficult it may be for some people in society to acquire a firearm, they will find a way if they really want it.
My one question to you is this;
What are you afraid of, if your neighbor owns a firearm and abides by the laws set forth?
by the way, you have the single most posts in this thread.Leave a comment:

Over 2000 People died on 9/11 as a direct result of BOX CUTTERS !!!! Let's ban those! Let's not forget Oklahoma City. We must ban fertilizer too!!!!!!!! People will kill people regardless. Hell any moron can drive a speeding car down a busy sidewalk and kill dozens. The Columbine shootings were done using post ban magazines ! Assault weapons commit less than 3% of all gun crimes.!!!! IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTROL ! Control the citizens. Don't you think the government has stolen enough of our freedoms ?

Re: Gun Control
An adult that owns a weapon ( what ever it may be; a firearm, a slingshot, a sword or dirk, a wooden mallet, etc. ) that keeps it where someone not trained in using said weapon in a responsible manner, should not really have these weapons.
In other words ... NOT SECURED !
A RESPONSIBLE ADULT WILL KEEP THEIR WEAPONS LOCKED AWAY FROM CHILDREN ...
With all due respect, that might not be entirely correct. A responsible adult will teach children how to handle and use firearms in a safe and responsible manner. Only people other than that who are decent and safety mined will try to keep their firearms out of the reach of children.
If that's nonsense, sorry about that.
Accidents can and do happen ( even to trained individuals ) ; therefore , cut the risk factor down as far as you can.
examples are :
If the weapon is NOT loaded , it cannot fire a projectile ....
If the pen has no ink , it cannot mis-spell a word ....Leave a comment:

I could do that .....

The story just says ' a family member ' it did not say it was his father ... " the gun used was owned by a family member of Nichols ..... Public Safety Director Thomas Coombs said at a press conference that it was legally registered but not properly secured. "
If that's nonsense, sorry about that.Leave a comment:

Guns and suicide: One mother's heartbreaking tale
"(CNN) -- I am a mother of three, and my views on guns have evolved significantly over the course of my lifetime. My husband hunts and believes strongly in his right to bear arms. But when my 25-year-old son, Peter, shot himself in a moment of despair in April 2012, I came full circle to a harsh reality: There are almost twice as many suicides as murders by firearm across America, roughly 19,000 of the 30,000 gun deaths each year. Yet we disproportionately fear and almost exclusively talk of criminals in the national gun debate.
Reliable studies showed that a gun was more likely to be used against a member of his own household than on anyone else. He expressed surprise at this information. Having said my piece, I dismissed my fears, satisfied that "forewarned is forearmed."
I have studied much of the research related to suicide and firearms. It's a myth that without a gun handy, people bent on killing themselves will just find another way. For many, the suicidal crisis is temporary, and 90% of those who survive an attempt do not go on to die by suicide. Any obstacle or delay can break the self-destructive trance. Guns are extremely lethal as a means of suicide. Very few survive a self-inflicted gunshot wound to get a second chance at life.
My hope is that people will recognize the very real threat of suicide, know that it is preventable, and act to keep guns out of reach. If you suspect that anyone in your family might be suffering from depression or suicidal thoughts, please get the gun out of the house or change the combination or the key before it's too late."
Dorothy Paugh wrote this essay in response to this argument for gun ownership. Paugh lost her father to suicide by gun 50 years ago, and one year ago, she lost her son in the same way.Leave a comment:

Re: Gun Control
the number one question I have is " Why was the gun loaded in the first place? "
next question " Who was suppose to be watching the child, and did they attempt to stop him ? "
being an avid gun owner myself, I would never show any one a gun that was loaded and it sure as hell wouldn't be tossed on a bed for any one to pickup.
a lot of the accidental shootings are a result of ignorance and arrogance on behalf of the firearm owner.
as a deputy sheriff the owner should have been more responsible with his firearm.
the deputy should be held responsible for his own arrogant actions.
this is just my thoughts.
I have always taught my own children since they were big enough to stand, to be respectful and cautious of any firearm.
fortunately for that child, he has no concept of what he has done.
how will this damage the boy if and when this is explained to him when he is older?
how is this going to affect the relationship between the 2 families in the future?Leave a comment:

Those are very good questions. I imagine there would be some initial sour grapes between the 2 families, who knows if it will ever be resolved. Maybe it will become the next Hatfields and McCoys...Leave a comment:

Maryland lawmakers pass strict gun control bill
Md. lawmakers pass strict gun control bill
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's already-strong gun laws will become among the strictest in the nation with a measure passed by the General Assembly Thursday, sending the bill to the Democratic governor who proposed the legislation in the aftermath of December's massacre at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school.
The state Senate voted 28-19 for final passage, agreeing to a number of changes the House of Delegates approved Wednesday.
The measure would require people who buy a handgun to submit fingerprints to state police, bans 45 types of assault weapons, and limits gun magazines to 10 bullets. It also addresses firearms access for the mentally ill.
Maryland will become the first state in nearly 20 years to require potential handgun buyers to submit fingerprints to state police. Only five other states have a similar requirement: Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey.
Gun control advocates say the fingerprinting requirement will help keep guns away from criminals, because it will make people reluctant to buy firearms for those who are not allowed to have them. Opponents say the bill erodes Second Amendment rights and ultimately penalizes law-abiding citizens without focusing on lawbreakers.
Although the measure bans 45 types of assault weapons, people who own them now will be able to keep them. People who order the weapons before Oct. 1, when the law would take effect, also would be able to keep them.
Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, who spoke of his own gun collection, noted that people will be able to keep the guns they have, even the assault weapons under the ban.
"It doesn't affect a single gun that anybody has," Miller, D-Calvert, said, noting shotguns and rifles are not affected.Leave a comment:
