this machine jams in the fuser right at the sep. claws, but only when copying through the feeder. i put a brand new fuser in and nothing changed. the machine is low meter(35k) and looks like new. what am i missing? it really seems like a fuser problem, but both fusers work fine in other boxes.

Can't say I know what the problem is, but I am wondering if it is a software issue. Is the machine flashed up to current system software? Is the glass half full or half empty? I say neither. The glass is obviously full, full of potential. The potential to hold more water or the potential to quench a thirst. Life is all about how you see it. -

That's not too bad. I think the current is around 40.01.Is the glass half full or half empty? I say neither. The glass is obviously full, full of potential. The potential to hold more water or the potential to quench a thirst. Life is all about how you see it.Comment

The only other thing coming to mind would be if it has something to do with face up/face down output? Is the glass half full or half empty? I say neither. The glass is obviously full, full of potential. The potential to hold more water or the potential to quench a thirst. Life is all about how you see it.Comment

What about the paper size dial on the cassettes, is it set up for the correct paper size that's in the cassettes?Comment

Ahhh..The Amazing Oze and his powers of ESP
Your jamming has nothing to do with the fuser as it's actually a delay getting to the fuser exit flag(PS13) in time.
Areas to look at...replace all the cassette rollers....replace the vertical path rollers if they have black rubber on them for the new Grey rubber rollers.
Also...fit the newer style lower Right Hand side door and inner door assembly.
If there's still no joy after these then you may have to look at the registration clutch...but in 99.9% of cases the vertical path rollers AND the new lower door assembly fixes this jamming.Comment

In the past few years Canon has had a lot of jamming issues resolved by adding a wrap to sensor flag spring. I would add a wrap to the sensor before the fixing unit, maybe to ps 13 also. Just not sure why as you say it only happens when the feeder is used.Is the glass half full or half empty? I say neither. The glass is obviously full, full of potential. The potential to hold more water or the potential to quench a thirst. Life is all about how you see it.Comment

This may not be related...
We have had a couple!!! of problems with 3100 series with jams that have had the Internal finisher fitted.
They have looked like fuser and delivery jams, but we have found they are caused by the sensor on the finisher door having poor contact. The door shuts OK but the actuator doesn't make proper contact with the micro-switch.
To remedy this you just have to bend the actuator arm outwards slightly. The biggest problem is that Canon don't have a specific error code or jam code for this so the machine reports the jam as where ever the paper is at the time
