Hi, all. I have a machine that will not connect to the network after a weather event. This usually would indicate to me that the MFB(now called BASE)board needs to be replaced. We ordered a new base board and installed it, but the network is still not coming up. No lights on the ethernet port and no network traffic. We called and put in a ticket with KM, and they're saying to replace the CPU Board. I know the i series machines are a little different, but historically any time I've had an issue like this, replacing the main board fixed the issue. Before we get too far down the rabbit hole, I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has had a similar issue, and if the CPU board is a viable fix. Any guidance would be great.

Thank you for confirming that the cpu board is most likely an issue. I'm don't regret replacing the base board, because it has a scorched smell to it, but it's good to know that the cpu board is the logical step.Comment

see attached , boot rom should be done after setting machine and type but before firmware,
Its also good practice to up date boot rom before updating firmware, because a lot of times they change boot rom when they change firmware. If it doesn't need to be updated it will tell you on the screen .
The steps that work for me , set machine and type, Power off, Power on with firmware stick in holding stop button(top button), Follow steps in the attached documentation to up date boot rom, Load firmware

I would like to share one thing with you, updating the boot is only necessary when the STRGB is replaced and the one we put is more modern than the one we had, precisely so that the CPUB recognizes the new STRGB.
The CPUB does not need anything, except to boot with the FW and tell it the model and type of machine, BUT WITHOUT LOADING FW OR BOOT. Turn off, turn on, wait for recovery message, tell it OK, reboot and that's it.
By the way, I agree that the problem raised in this thread is the CPUB,. it has already happened to me several times.Field technician since 1994Comment

in all honesty - if the device has been affected by a "weather event", and the board has a "scorched smell" - I'm guessing it was possibly a lightning strike - I'd tell the customer to make a claim on their insurance, and replace the device, you don't know what problems you could end up with in 6 months or moreTip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...👍 1Comment
