It Has a C2557 Code What is the procedure to get into Service Mode and the Password? Can this Message be Cleared?

best to replace drum and developer units and start fresh with an F8 if memory serves.
you can tinker around with atdc in service mode but for an old dinocopier its best to just replace and run the adjustments and clear the consumable counter for both.
do you want a manual?We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.

Hey making me feel old because I know this old model all to well?. synthohol is right once it gets to the 2557 code you need to replace drum, cleaning blade & developer. *It's important to replace developer & drum at same time. And like he said run F8 in service mode. Also need to clear drum & developer counters in service mode. If you try and just reset code C2557 will keep coming back haunting you! Don't really want to post service passwords but if you take synthohol up on his offer for service manual you will have everything you need.Comment

There may also be a problem with the solenoid sticking. I'm sure the pad is sticky.Comment

Yes I remember the 470Z and soldering the cold solder joints on all the big pins on PU1. But I actually worked the prior 450Z with weird print button and even much older the Minolta 101 which was a liquid machine with coated roll paper. Can't say I miss those old models, some bad models could requier a service call a few times a month. 4 hour PM's, etc etc......Comment

drum appearance is not related to the developer/toner ratio which is what is causing the code.
it also happens when someone clears the drum and or dv counter without actually replacing the parts.
again, best bet is to replace the 2 items and calibrate according to the manual.We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.

You were given some good advice. If you are sure no one tried to reset life counter without changing drum & dev which will cause a C2557 code then you could check the toner solenoid for sticking.
Personally if it was my old machine and everything else like feeding paper, etc worked good I would buy an OEM drum unit and bag of OEM developer and be done with it. Drum & Dev replacement is covered in service manual. I would end the madness for around $150
FYI, those drums always look good, even at end of life. Again, both drum & dev have to be replaced at same time.Last edited by copyman; 06-25-2024, 12:40 AM.Comment

Yes, the sticky pad will prevent the arm that is driven by the solenoid from releasing. This results in the toner add gears rotating multiple times instead of just a single rotation, then you end up with too much toner being added to the developer mix. I've included an old photo of the toner add mechanism that shows where the pad is located. It's on the OTHER SIDE of the green circled area. The assembly is a bit of PIA to get out, and unfortunately removing the assembly is the only way to get at the pad in order to remove it.You do not have permission to view this gallery.
