When printing, the prints come out great, but copying on glass or adf they have a grey back ground.

even after removing the glass and cleaning the mirrors? cleaning the white strips?
i'd do a background data reset and stabilize then all the gradation adjustments (3 each)
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
    The medication helps though...

Run a preview on the screen (this can be set to a registered hard key if not present) and see if what shows up on the screen. If you have a black background you know it's something with the scanner.

You didn't say if you removed the glass and cleaned the optics? You should start there and do the gradation adj as Syn suggested.

I did clean the optics. The rear mirror under scan lamp had some movement.Sometimes the copies are good and then hazy grey background appears.I am thinking the mirror in the scanner area is moving.

Would you like to attach a sample?
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

lift the front left corner of the scanner bed with 10-20 lbs of force and make another copy.
this looks like a sunken/bent scanner bed to me on first glance.
