    c551i bypass tray

    I have a C551i that has an issue with com10 envelopes. do the calibration on the bypass width sensors, calibrates ok. insert com10 envelope, it does not detect, set com10 manually and the machine generates an error that the guides are incorrect. I tied a new width sensor, no change in error. I have also tried a whole bypass assy., calibrates ok but i get the same error. i have also re-seated all wires and i don't see any bent pins on the connectors.

    any suggestions would be appreciated. Im ready to resort to the BFH method of repair.

    Thanks

    Just generally speaking, if it ain't the connection or the parts IN the BP tray, it's got to be a pinched wire or bad control/main board. Pretty new machine, unless it's plugged into the wall and not a surge protector(blown boards), you might have to remove covers and follow wires visually unless firmware is bugged. Did you try resetting trouble memory, ram clear etc.? Check Fiimware level?

      Yeah. I-Series suck with envelopes - in my experience. Try using different thick settings and the specific envelope setting. Also cleaning the pick up rollers will help even if they are new.

        I had this drive me nuts one time. Do the width adjustment then do min width with com 10 envelope instead of just closing guides to minimal setting. Worked on three machines for me

          Are you doing the calibration correctly? You'd be surprised at how many people do it wrong, thinking minimum and maximum are the guides all the way in and all the way out. There are specific widths they must be set to. For instance, the way Woxner suggested in his post right above mine is the wrong way of doing it. Minimum width does not mean you move the side guides all the way in to the minimum.

          5.11 Manual Bypass Tray Width Adj
          • To set the maximum width and the minimum width for the bypass paper width detection resistor of the manual bypass guide.
          • Use when the bypass paper width detection resistor of the manual bypass guide has been changed.
          • Use when a false paper size is displayed when the manual bypass is used.

          <Procedure>
          1. Touch [Max. Width].
          2. Load the bypass tray with paper having a width of 297 mm.
          3. Press the Start key and check that the results are [OK].
          4. Touch [Min. Width.].
          5. Load the bypass tray with paper having a width of 110 mm.
          6. Press the Start key and check that the results are [OK].
          7. Make the adjustment again if the results are [NG].
