We had a run on these issues a few months back and yes it was Copylite toner in the machine. Turns out it was the hopper f-ing up as the flapper inside is hinged front and back and was out of position, or not attached at one end.
Brent if you call Moe at Copylite he will be glad to sell you OEM TN-514, we run it in every 4 and 8 series box we service. You have to Dremel the fins off and for the low end 4 series Dremel the chip off...... They work like a charm except if you knock off the one fin that opens the shutter when you turn the cartridge you will have to remove the cartridge for the customer when its time for toner again. This has saved us tremendous amounts of coin over the past 1.5 years. Also on the i series TN628k and TN626 can be interchanged, just snap off the one plastic fin at the top of the cartridge and presto they go in both machines. The Dr. Frankenstein's of the Bizhub world. By the way the TN514 is cheaper than their generic, we go through close to 50 or so a week.

wow that is really cool.. I have no problem just running oem 516 seems easier.. I just cant seem to get to get this copier to actually add toner.. and watch it spin the bottle I guess is what I am saying. I am afraid after we swapped out the toner hopper (which is the front cover basically) fairly not fun to replace.. that it wont spin the bottle yet. but the other one h oopper was empty / hoping that this one will work its been a few days I am afraid to go to the machine at customers site and look to jinx myself. lol but if it doesnt spin the toner bottle I would think that the motor would throw a code.. I am begining to not lo ve these machines.
they have a very week fusing section is what I also don't love about them hoping this will start working

I don't know if this will help ... but I have a suggestion:
*Open the front door & remove the toner bottle. Mark the toner bottle coupler with a Sharpie, so its easy to see if it's rotating.
*Key the front door.
*Use your flashlight to watch the toner bottle coupler.

If it's really not turning at all, it's possible that the mechanism is bound up. I found this on an 808 (I know its different, but maybe?). The plastic coupler was imperfectly formed, so it could rotate when pressed in, but would wedge tightly when engaged with the bottle. If the motor is still functional you should be able to hear the motor straining to turn the bottle rotator. I was able to fix my machine permanently by using the Dremel to remove some of the taper on the coupler.

Sorry if that's unclear ... I'll include the document. Maybe it will make more sense to you.

Warning: It's a major operation to get to that bottle rotator. Let us know what you discover. =^..^=

This will turn bottle or may jitter because it's hung up or bad gear etc. Also remove btl and look at motor, etc to see if moving. You posted you repalce the complete toner hopper assembly so that rules out a lot.

ok I am at a machine right now I went image process adj there are a few options gradation adjust density balance adjust image bacground adj stabilizer and max image density adj. I tried a couple but didnt get the bottle to turn. would you let me k now what one to try to watch the toner bottle move
? I actually feel dumb but thats par for my course.. haha thank you all for hellping me

Maybe open and close front door.
If there is no toner in the hopper it thinks it is full and will never turn toner bottle but will run it in service mode if you do manual toner add.

ok the latest on my saga is.. heard nothing from the customer for 3 days. good right? nah they called today no codes just almost pure white copies
like you cant hardly see the print.. so it didn't work the other day just by changing the front cover toner hoopper.. so I have it in my office.. as they received a loaner today. so I can breath a bit and try to get it sorted here.. so be prepared for more messages here.. after that. all I can say is dang it.. im all out of swear words for today thanks all

Do you work on many kon/min? Reason I ask is you would know that under "image process adj" there is tab "manual toner add". This should turn bottle once you find out why it's not turning.

Also like I posted previously to make sure bottle is turning & hopper full before installing a new dev unit so not to ruin new dev unit. Since you are getting almost white prints all the toner was depleted during those 3 days you didn't hear from customer. You should be able to save dev unit once you get btl turning and add toner to around 6%

copy man. I reported what I found on that tab under image process adj. I didnt realize there was a second tab on top.. I am at the office and just found the tab on another machine since the broken machine was not at my office till a few hours ago and it is tore down.. I am going to get it to the point and see if I can get the bottle to turn.. I guess I am too old and forget about the next tab. I am 50 and am used to the old machines I guess.. with eeproms lol

ok here is what I found. with me finding out the manual add toner.. It does not spin the bottle.. I can hear the toner hopper in front spinning every 20 seconds. but the main bittle is not spinning it actually spun a quarter inch which is werid.. I have a second 558e working unit here at my office and I took the top cover off and am observing it right now.. the manual add toner works like a charm.. but it only went a few times and now when I try it it goes like only a quarter inch no more because it might try to overtone itself? anyways I am thining it might be the toner bottle motor in the back which looks like no fun to get into.. or am I looking at something else? maybe it thinks its full and only spins the bottle a quarter inch? yes I am a km tech from the 90s this one is really kicking my ars. I appreciate any input gents

Hey Brent. what's the actual TCR value cuz when it reaches reference value it won't run bottle only developer agitation...check it in state confirmation - level history 1...

Toner Bottle won't turn on these designs if the unit senses the hopper is full, even in manual mode.
This is also now standard on i-series.
When in Manual add toner mode, the hopper motor quickly reverses to check the level in the hopper using a Float and Sensor.
If the sensor is NOT triggered the tube will not be driven.
If the sensor IS triggered the tube will be driven, followed by forward pulses on the Hopper motor to supply toner.

See image attached.

Item 11 is the Float and should be able to drop down under its own weight when the hopper is empty.
Item 22 is the Float sensor - clean it or replace it. This is most likely your issue.
Item 19 is the Float sensor flag - again it should move freely when the hopper is empty.

And while your working in it, you may as well check the Auger seals (Items 9 & 18) are not tight. Not related to an empty hopper though.

I would recommend doing this what blackcat has. I have shaved down and cleaned 10 or more toner bottle drives now due to the 2557 code. The whole system in the back runs off a spring loaded gear so if there is to much back pressure on the gear it will just skip and not spin. on that shaft make sure you shave down both the bottom thicker part of the shaft and the top part where the 3 prong plastics connector goes on. Make sure all the gears are clean and there is not a chunk of anything in a gear also creating resistance. Only had issues with that motor once before so would start with making sure that gear box without the motor spins very easy in your hand.

I look at the toner hopper to find out if the toner bottle drive is working. If you do a toner add and it take 3+ mins to get the TCR back up its running to slow. At all times the hopper should be full to the top not like any lower models where there is room in the hopper from all the brand new 808 to in the field with 3 million if the toner bottle is properly adding toner the hopper is always full to the rim "unless you are running 255 halftones or sky shots" but still should be very close to full.
