    Kyocera 4004i host name issues

    Kyocera 4004i host name.
Customer wants Windows to find the kyocera on the network just by its host name and not the model:host name. Is that possible?

Not many of my customers use hostname only, but as long as DHCP is functioning properly, it should be alright.

The most interesting service call I did regarding hostnames, was when the customer named several machines with the exact same hostname. Occasionally it did print, but you'd never know which machine would print. Most of the time just nothing. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Spoke to the customer again...They have several 4004i. IT changed the host names to reflect location. When the end user is adding a printer, they get confused by the way the printer is displayed on their pc. Ie. Kyocera 4004i:HRoffice....Basically all the printers on the list are label with the same model. They IT dept only wants to see the host name.. I think this is a function of Windows and not the copier. Also IT should be handling the install / policies of their users and not cutting corners

It sounds like they're adding them to be WSD. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. Also, if their IT is anywhere near competent, they should know how to deploy drivers. Installing from the server and pulling down only shows the SHARE name you give it, like "Front Office". If they name them as such, then in 5 years when they change the machine, they can change the dropdown under "Advanced" in Printer Properties and never break the share for faster installation.

WSD Printing is Off, WSD Scan is on under protocols. I will switch if off just in case. You are correct, IT should be doing a better job.

Even worse, Bonjour printers are now able to be located with Windows devices, so even if WSD is off, they can still find em!

IMHO when it comes to printing, many (not all) IT guys find this duty beneath them and treat it as such.

You're not wrong. I once worked with an IT guy who made the company that pays him to pay US to install print drivers on their server. Even worse, a week later, he deleted the virtual server and restarted because it needed more Ram allocated to it... SO they got billed again. He then had me pull drivers down to every one of their 20 PC's... All because he doesn't like dealing with printers.
