    Kyocera Image Adjustment

Sometimes we ship machines to other dealers out of our service area. Not an uncommon practice as we have large clients with multiple locations. Every so often I will get a call from a tech or service manager about particular problem they may be having. Before I hang up, I ask if they run Image Adjustment before they leave the client. I usually surprised to find that they do not. I think this helpful habit.

Whenever I remove a developer unit, drum unit, transfer belt, deep clean the optics, or replace any number of part that impact the xerographic process, I always run what Kyocera calls Image Adjustment. I have found that by doing this I usually increase the time between service calls. It also allows me to check copy quality before I leave.

Kyocera Image Adjustment usually consists of running in this order: U464 (Calib), U469 (Auto-color machines only), U410 (Normal Mode). Some models may have extra steps, some less steps. A quick way I have found on most models to do the Image Adjustment is by using 'U952: Execute / SET UP'. I do the steps listed, but once I get to U000, I'm done.

Also, there is an instruction sheet in the box when one gets a new developer unit, drum unit, or transfer belt. That instruction sheet is usually titled 'Details of adjustments following unit replacement' or 'Procedure after replacing parts'. That sheet will list the recommend Image Adjustment for that model. I have saved these sheets and written the model series at the top for future reference.

It seems to me that every manufacture has some sort of Image Adjustment that is recommended after removing or replacing major components. If you are doing other manufactures equipment, you may wish to find out the equivalent procedure.

It just makes good sense to do these things regardless of whether any parts have been removed or replaced. I usually will start with U474 to be sure the laser is good and clean and run U412 where applicable. Firstly though I ensure all the registrations and magnifications are proper from the print engine, off the glass and through the document processor.

      GOOD post Samanator.
90% from incoming calls on my side are related to missing quality after replacement from parts.
During each training for technicians i tell them: Never trust a technician!!
Very easy to check if needed adjustments would done.
Compare U110, U127, U158 with U251 and you will see that Maintenace HT data shows higher value.
This value would set to "0" automatically in case of running U410 successfully.
If U410 wouldn't done, all other important needed adjustment wouldn't run.
Meanwhile i prepared and shared special U952/ USB workflow for needed adjustments after replacement procedure.
During each call i ask for U000 reports, otherwise no more support from my side.
After running the needed workflow i am able to check U952 values by time and date stamp.
e.g. for U964 are around 60 seconds needed.
In case of less time, i know that it wouldn't run in the right way, or tech used the skip function...
The amount of calls decreased dramatically.

        Thanks Lunatech and KYO_OEM.

Another thing I cannot figure out where to mention, but it is something I do with every machine I set up be it out of box or used. That is U034 Adjust Paper Timing Data.

To be more precise U034 Adjust Paper Timing Data>LSU Out Left. Go there then press System Menu. In the next screen, choose a drawer then hit Start. The machine will print out a page. The print out will have a line down the middle with a - on one side and a + on the other side. Fold the sheet in half. If the fold matches the middle line, you're done. If not the fold will be ether to the - side or the + side. Press System Menu and adjust the number for the drawer/cassette up or down depending on witch side the fold appeared. On the print out I will usually write the adjustment number for the drawer/cassette before making a change. And do this on every corresponding page I print out to keep up with the changes I'm making. Also, many times I will put in a large number just to see how much the change. I have found this helps me quickly see if I'm going in the right direction.

Why do I think this adjustment is important. It is because this centers the image on the paper correctly. I have found if the image isn't centered, then many adjustments are off. Adjustments U469 or U410 may not work if centering is off.

This adjustment goes waaay back to the earliest days of these machines using lasers.

If someone is not doing this centering adjustment, I hope this helps.

Just don't forget to do U034 for all the speeds listed, I did this yesterday 🙄 lol, customer was printing cardstock through the MP tray. In diagnostics the lead edge and centering were perfect but when she printed it out the lead edge and centering sucked. Once the ol' light bulb went off and I realized my error and made the correct adjustment, it worked great.
