    Kyocera SMB Scan Setup

    Good Morning

Just looking for a few suggestions as i have never run into this before. We've done plenty of scan to file setups on new and old Kyoceras in the past. I was at a new computer setup and what the customer told me when they setup their new windows computer a regular login password was not required. It went straight to Microsoft and now only needs the pin number to login. Ive done other setups and always used the local password without an issue. I tried every which way and cant get this computer to scan. They only want scan to file unfortunately as i did try talking them into scan to email. There may be a simple answer to this but i never ran into it. Can i setup a Windows 11 new computer to scan to file without a password or a different way. It is a newer model CS-3011. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Smb scanning requires a user name and password account.

I believe you can use Kyocera pin point scan also that work simular to the old scanner file utility.

You could also add a local user account

SMB on Windows 11 is like SMB on 10. just make sure that the OS is Pro and not Home version.

      Good Luck

If I setup another local user account do they have to be logged in to that user on their computer to smb scan.

No they do not. What I usually do is name the new user account "Kyocera" because sometimes a customer will get sideways if I tell them I'm creating a new user account on their PC. When they see that the name is Kyocera, they seem to believe there's no funny business going on. Just saying.....

We have a registration editor that hides the user we created so the customer never sees it.

I always add a local user account, using an account name and password that my coworkers and I have agreed on. That way, if they have to change their Micro$oft password it doesn't screw up the scanning.

And then there is the most secure type of scanning you can do with these machines that requires no user names, passwords, nor email.

Scan to a USB memory stick only requires the sneaker network and is 100% secure (well mostly, nothing is a 100% secure).

But for some reason no customer wants to that unless its an emergency.

                  ...oh well.

                    Re: Kyocera SMB Scan Setup

When a user uses the MS pin to log on to the OS, Windows goes out on the internet to MS to verify the pin number to the user, it is not authenticated by the local system. Setting up a local user account is the only way to get SMB scanning to work.

                      Thanks for the info.

Say a Windows 11 PC doesn't have internet access or the router goes down etc how can they log onto that PC!?

What I usually do is create new local account and give it permission to shared folder where you want to scan.
No one has to be logged into that account for this to work. I usually make local account with password and set password to never expire.
WMIC USERACCOUNT WHERE Name='username' SET PasswordExpires=FALSE
