    Kyocera 4002i (starting network)

The customer called in today and said that lightening struck the building a few days ago and it took out the ISP router and switch. Also, the copier wouldn't print after the lightning strike. The ISP company came out today and replaced their equipment (it was fried) but she said the printer still wouldn't print.

I went out there today. All the cables are good. I'm able to plug my laptop into the port and get on the network/internet. But the copier just says "starting network" and that's where it's stuck.

I ran 906. I even did a memory initialize. No dice.

    Any ideas.

Bad network port circuit or circuit board. To replace.

Your main board is toast. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

That's what I figured. I thought I'd ask anyway. Anyone have a ballpark dollar figure on the cost of this board? Maybe thru Hytec or anywhere? They were closed when I called a few minutes ago.

Try enabling the wireless to get it going, assuming they have it.
            Hope that helps !

That's a great suggestion. I wonder if wireless still works. I'll try it. Thanks for the help.

If the Iris still has a USB type B port, you may be able to use an USB print server. That part of the main board may have survived. But it won't help with the scanning. =^..^=

I picked up the machine today and installed a loaner. Wifi didn't work, either.

On a side note: The owner of the company is trying to deny that lightening was the cause despite the fact that the manager told me that lightening took out the copier, ISP router and switch. Now he's saying that she misspoke and that he's not 100% sure it was lightening.

Nothing surprises me in this business when money is involved. They just bought the machine a few months back. I took the loaner because I want to let emotions settle down before I have spell it out for him.

I've been there before, I think you are doing the right thing, let things calm down first. Did lightning take anything else out? That is going to be your proof, the owner can take out a claim and cover the copier as well. See if you can get a main board from Hytec, show the client the cost of a new one and cut him a deal to make them feel better, a compromise if you will.

Yeah, it took out the ISP router, phones and the switch.

                      Thanks for the wise advice.
