    4002-6002 grinding/waste toner locking up

Has anyone had any of these issue? We've run into a few of these now that keep doing it over and over and we end up having to replace the waste box assembly in the back to clear it up only to have it happen again a few weeks later. I'm beginning to think something is wrong with the actual waste toner hopper where the bottle goes in and it's not opening the bottle all the way or something. There should be no reason to have to replace this many of those drive sections on these.

Have you checked to see if the waste toner cartridge is rotating?
If it isn't the waste toner will back up, the waste toner holder may need replacing.

I agree that the WTB unit (where the waste toner bottle goes) is probably the culprit. I have been down that road and it always has lead to the WTB unit (eventually) I have found most of the time the two pieces that comprise the casing of the WTB unit were not meshing together properly and allowing the waste toner bottle gear to disengage from its drive and it will not turn consistently. Most of the time it will turn intermittently. I have caught it on a few setups as well as in the field. In some cases I was able to get it apart with out breaking it and reassemble it the correct way, sometimes not. In the case of "not" replacement become necessary.
        I hope this helps.

I agree with the above comments that the waste toner container is probably not rotating.

There is a magic way to get the WTB shell to pop back into place so it will turn again. Lift the paper drawers out so you can get your hand back there and thump the sheet metal to the left of drawer 2. The shock will usually make it snap into place and voila it rotates again.

If its the new style WTB unit you should also recalibrate waste toner box sim 155

There is also a top felt pad similar to the one in the toner hopper ( the one that can tear up and clog the hopper assembly). I have had them come loose and block the entry to the WTB assembly.
I found it best to replace the assembly at that point although the felt pad can be removed. My only concern with removing the felt pad is the possibility of dusting might occur.

Thanks everyone! I'll look into all of this. This is the first time we have had any issues with the waste toner system on these.

I always test rotation by opening the waste toner door and actuating the interlock for the door. The bottle should rotate. If it doesn't, the covers have likely separated where the bottle drive gear is located as others have already mentioned.

Are you using Kyocera toner or off-brand (aftermarket) toner?

                      Very important.
