    2554 Firmware Error

I have an odd issue that I can not figure out with a Kyo 2554ci. Originally did a firmware upgrade via KFS, only for it to fail. Went physically to the machine to check it out, and it is getting a Firmware Error on PF-Under 0801. Probably the oddest thing is that this machine doesnt have a paper feed attachment, just standard 2 trays. No matter how many times I restart the machine, it comes straight back to this error. Tried inserting USB stick with combined firmware, wont read it. Tried unplugging the hard drive, restarting the machine, same error. Also tried Kyo Net Viewer, but its not able to see the machine since its doesnt get past the firmware screen.

I have a new SSD and Engine Board showing up today. Also ordered a Main Board but its on backorder. Was told by Kyo tech that you can not swap engine or main boards with another machine on 4 series because they are serial number locked. Did try swapping the paper feed PWB since thats what was getting the error, but did not help.

Any thoughts on how to get this to clear?

    Thanks!

    Re: 2554 Firmware Error

I believe you should be able to swap boards, just have to do them 1 at a time so they can write the serial numbers for counterfeit protection.y
I would disconnect all accessories, do full firmware (not turbo) each time adding accessories one at a time.
    Hope that helps !

      Re: 2554 Firmware Error

on older system the flag for not finished upgrades would set on HDD and systems are coming back with FW upgrade screen.

in this case we unplugged HDD and run upgrade for main, engine and panel only.
On Iris2020 it`s more difficult, but try the following:
You has to remove a lot of DL_**** files except all DL_CTRL***files, DL_ENGN.2XC and DL_SPNL.2XC + DL_SPCF.2V8 from FW package
DL_CTRL*** are all needed files for main pwb
      DL_ENGN*** needed for engine pwb
      DL_SPNL*** needed for panel pwb
      DL_SPCF*** needed for panel pwb

After FW completed we connected HDD again and run complete upgrade without failed component, in your case complete upgrade without DL_03V4.2XC file

Up to yet never tried it by myself on Iris2020.
Only separate DF upgrade by this way and it works....

Take a look for my leaflet i shared for older systems.
There i showed the old/ easier way to extract all needed files, but now it`s easier to remove the not needed DL_***files.
(DL_* files are nearby the same as old autoexec.bat files.)
e.g. if you wants to upgrade the Iris2020/ 25ppm engine FW only, you has to copy and paste DL_ENGN.2XD, S2XD_1000.004.101.bin, 2XD_ENGN.cert.pem + 2XD_ENGN.sign.bin files to USB key and system will upgrade the engine pwb only.
Now it`s more complicated because of new security function from FW runtime security check.

If you are a lucky guy, you can try it with new SSD only.
Remove the DL_03V4.2XC file and run upgrade procedure.
If it won`t start, no problem, follow up the upper instructions, if it works, drink a couple of beer....

      Good luck

Thanks for the info! Only thing that worries me is that when I disconnect the hard drive and reboot the machine, it still comes up to the firmware error which makes me think it might have wrote it to the SSD. Also it seems to ignore that my USB drive is plugged in with the combined firmware and doesnt want to even try to load it.

I will give this a try when I make it back. Thanks again!

If you can access the system menu, make sure nobody has disabled the USB port under device security. I've had that happen and couldn't figure out why I couldn't load firmware. I've also had them disable the optional ports, and the fax doesn't show up after that. Took a while to find that one.
          Hope that helps !

No access to the system menu as the machine only shows the welcome screen, then firmware update screen, then firmware error. The USB stick does light up that its being read, but then goes dark 5 seconds in due to no activity.

              Re: 2554 Firmware Error

When recovering a machine by installing a new SSD, the first thing that must happen is setup of the SSD.

This is usually accomplished by internal process which will only start if a USB is plugged in on first power-up with new SSD.

This USB can be blank, (in which case the SSD should format but will display failure to load MAIN firmware.
If USB has either FULL or MAIN only firmware, SSD will format and Main will load.

You will see this at power-up as black screen-white text but different layout from typical firmware load screen.

For next reboot, full firmware should be inserted and load on power-up.

Generally this is only seen with new SSD installed and has been required to proceed when system is corrupted. After this intialization, Main PWB can be replaced if needed or recovered by KYO_OEM process.

The service manual confuses this process by referring to SSD back-up/recovery as part of it. However it is still required without any SSD back-up file.

                Re: 2554 Firmware Error

Take care that SSD must be new/ not formated
You can do it by yourself, format and delete all partitions by connected SSD card reader to your pc.
If FW from other system e.g. 2XD(high) instead of needed 2XC(low) still present on this SSD, upgrade won`t start.
Procedure is stored on NAND on MPWB and will start automatically.(starts even if the USB port is blocked)
2nd needed update won`t start if USB ports blocked, system will use MPWB settings and system will stuck in "Welcome"!!
                Now the worst case:
If the new security function called "FW update execution permission" would set to "ON" in past, new MPWB + SSD needed, because no access to U025.
This is one more fuc.....feature which would implemented by KDC engineers.

                  Re: 2554 Firmware Error

New SSD fixed the firmware issue! After installing, it came up with the different looking firmware screen, loaded main and engine firmware. Restarted with USB stick in with full firmware but removed the DL_03V4.2XC file. Loaded firmware, and rebooted.

Getting a C3800 error, but was happy that it finally started up. Customer is happy that they can print again, but all scanner functions are disabled. Tried swapping the engine board but that didnt help. Going to wait for the main board to show and swap that out which will hopefully get them back up and running at 100%.

Thanks again for all the help!

C3800 i have seen in cases that tech had opened the pwb case from main + engine pwb.
Mostly tech forgot to connect FFC for image sensor pwb when closed again.

I triple checked all connections, everything was snug. The main board doesnt have an ETA on when it will be coming from Kyo so I took a main board from a 2554 at the office and swapped it. After running U004 to match serial numbers, everything is working again!
