Copier has less then 10k on it and it jams from tray 1. Feed/separation/p/u rollers look good. The client had knocked the separation roller assembly spring out of place/ we put the spring back in place and now the machine will jam sporadically out of tray 1, it could run 50 with no issues, then jam on a 10 page run. It runs fine out of the bypass tray. I'm wondering if reducing/ adding separation spring tension could resolve the issue. Has there been a tech bulletin about this issue?

What's the jam code ? -
Re: M2640dw jamming from tray 1
could be the feed clutch from your explanation, not related to the spring.
Have had jamming from cass 1 on out of the box system...
rusted clutch

Re: M2640dw jamming from tray 1
We had a case with an ECOSYS M3655 that seems a lot like this. Randomly would fail and randomly just start working again, making you think you fixed it.
As it turned out there was a bushing, white is this case, missing from the inside of the shaft the cassette feed clutch rides on.
Right out of the box it worked well for the first 8-10k and then started to flake out randomly.
I know it's not the same model as the one you are working on but maybe you have a similar situation.Comment

Maybe there's an issue with the paper. Please try loading a brand new ream of paper into Tray 1. It's worth excluding at least one potential reason. btw an Event log printout would be usefulComment

Re: M2640dw jamming from tray 1
The majority of the jams (26) are Jam4211 which is in the fuser area. I see there have been serval fuser updates and this one seems noisy when it's running so we are going to order an updated fuser unit and a feed clutch for tray 1.Comment

Re: M2640dw jamming from tray 1
I noticed smudges down toward the second half of the paper, I was not sure if that was drum related, but you have confirmed my uncertainty.Comment

Re: M2640dw jamming from tray 1
The J4211 is def. the fusing unit as well as the smudges. You may need a fuser drive unit also. It will start making a gear growl. It's relatively easy to get to from the bottom side of the machine. I don't think you'll need the clutch.
We keep those fusers in stock. They don't last very long at all.Comment
