[CQ] Only when using ADF feeder causes stretched image 1 1/2" away from the trailing edge.

Hello,
I'm working on a Panasonic Workio DP-3510. Straight copying from the glass works fine. Only when using the ADF automatic document feeder I get a 1/4 in band of stretched image from top to bottom about 1 1/2" from the trailing edge of the copy. It does this when copying to paper and creating scanned images. When I stick 25 originals in the ADF about 10 of the copies will have the distorted image. How do I fix this? Thanks for your help.

something must be loose causing some of the pages to slip and not feed properly.

check everything in the paper path and see if anything appears loose

Looked around and nothing seemed loose. Why would the image stretch in the same spot on the page? It happens on both double sided copies and single.

put a stack of documents in the feeder. is there any difference in feeding from the pages that get messed up and the pages that come out ok? if there is then it's a document feed problem. if there isn't then it's a read/write or other issue.

I ran the same stack several times. I watched each page of the stack enter and exit the feeder. They all seem to go in and out the same speed every time. I was thinking that maybe it's a slipping feeder clutch but if that was the case why would always slip and cause the font stretch 1 1/2 inches away from the trailing edge? And it does not matter whether I'm running a double sided copy or single sided copy, the stretched image always happens 1 1/2" from the trailing edge. The stretched image is always at the 1 1/2 inch mark for about a 1/4" and then the font looks fine the rest of the way. What I haven't tried yet, is feeding the pages with the short edge first. I'll let you know what happens but what could be causing this? What other tests can I do to isolate the cause of the problem?

I have attached pdf samples of the distorted images from this Panasonic Workio 3510 copier. The problem only happens when using the ADF automatic document feeder. What is causing this? What parts do I need to fix this? Thank you.

I've come across something similar on other slide read type document feeders. The spacing between the white plate and the slit glass is important. If there is not quite enough space the slit glass will get dirty quickly and you can get a blur towards the trail end of the original. If you were to match up the blur with the original position in the DF I think you'll find that the trailing edge of the original is just leaving the registration rollers of the DF.

Look for the feature on the white plate that spaces the white plate from the slit glass. There are two of these features, one toward the front of the copier and one toward the rear of the copier. Where those features meets the slit glass add a layer of self adhesive mylar to the slit glass. That will provide an additional 1/3mm of spacing. Now test.

If that's not enough to resolve the problem add another layer. Usually one or two layers does the trick. The most I've ever done is three layers. And if it doesn't work, its easily reversible. Just peel off the mylars. It's worth a try. =^..^=
