Checked the hard drive today. 15% fragmented and partition drive 28% frsgmented. Which to me makes sense since like I said at one point there was some communication between the fiery and 5100 but now there's zero. I know all the cables are good because I've tried multiple cables from working devices and at least one wall port that I'm certain works. It looks like the install software is on the tower and once it's done defragmenting, had to leave before it finished, going to reinstall software and see what happens.
It's super easy to reinstall system software. Insert disc one and reboot. Follow instructions on tower screen. You'll be back to a fresh start in an hour or two.

AGH, hate to admit this but I'm an idiot. After reinstalling software and it didn't work, went in to SP Mode to switch to internal controller and the bit switch had reset to 0 instead of 1 for Fiery contoller.

I don't know if you were able to fix it but I just found out the bit switch for the controller on the one I was working on reset to 0 instead of 1 for the Fiery.

How did it get turned off, I've never seen one change by itself.

and the other guy with the MPC300, he doesn't have a Fiery, he had no business posting here.

That's a good question, that's one of the reasons why I never looked at it and figured it was a network connect issue. All I was told is they lost the abilty to use the printer. If some one actually got in to the service mode and made a change I don't think they would claim it since it was down for a week.

Since 0 is the default unless there is a Fiery, I wonder if SP 5801-011 NCS, Network Control Service, would reset it?

I never thought to check it, won't make that mistake again, and the other couple of techs I spoke to never thought of it either. In fact they made the same comment when I spoke to them after I found it, "Never seen it revert to default". There were just a lot of odd things that didn't make sense, could ping back and forth, view through Web Image Monitor and then no communication. Plugged ethernet in to internal port and couldn't see it all on the network. Even after turning it on had to set a static ip address to get it to function, auto obtain would give a 169 address.
