    [Jamming] MP C5503 with J020

I have an MP C5503 that keeps jamming just past the fuser. Let me start out by saying I am not familiar at all with Ricoh machines.

The paper gets up to the exit rollers, but those rollers don't turn, therefore the jam. The customer has removed the finisher sometime before I had arrived. They told me they moved the machine from another location in the building and then the finisher wouldn't work, so they removed it. I don't know if that has any bearing on this problem but I thought I should mention it. I don't know if the machine was working after they removed the finisher.

The finisher thing may be a red herring, I just don't know.

Thanks for any help in advance.

even without the finisher it should work the same, the error code sc720 finisher will appear, but it will not stop. Has the bridge also been removed? Try another paper tray or size.

No, the bridge has not been removed.

I didn't think to try a different paper size or tray.

ask the customer if the problem had occurred even before removing the finisher, also check the exit sensor if it is misplaced or disconnected, possibly due to a jam release.
        pm and total counter?

check the 2 fuser gears that they are not worn, they appear to be made of galak chocolate

If your bridge unit is still in there, then there are two types of exit rollers you are talking about. The main exit rollers of the machine right after the fuser, or the exit rollers for the bridge unit paper exit switching unit.

If the bridge unit is still attached, what was previously said is correct, you will be getting an sc 792 and have a red status light on constantly. If you are not seeing this and the bridge unit is on, it is possible it is not set correctly, however unlikely, and therefore the machine is not registering that it is attached and the rollers will not turn.

I have also seen where the black flag/actuator for the paper exit full sensor is left down causing the paper to get stuck while it exits, see if that black flag is tucked back into place or not.

An easy way to diagnose if it is the bridge unit is to just remove it entirely, 2 screws.

J020 could be a paper exit jam. It could be a dirty exit sensor if the paper is getting a few cm past the exit rollers.

If the roller are actually not turning before the jam happens, the gear on the exit shaft could be rounded out. It was a problem with previous models. The shaft bushings would run dry and cause the shaft to seize.

One other possibility would be a problem with the duplex gate. The paper is supposed to be entering the duplex unit, not the exit.
