MP 9003 with constant long warmup

Hello folks, Asking for some input again. As always, I appreciate any and all responses. We just put an MP9003 out in the field in good shape. We received a call, telling us that when someone goes up to the unit to make a copy, It goes thru a long warmup which is very frustrating. Obviously it's after it hasn't been used for a little bit. All the energy settings are maxed out. I never ran into this before. Could it be going into some kind of "auto shut off" ?? Or is this common on these big machines?? I looked thru all the settings, and did not see anything. Thanks in advance, Laser801

Define long warmup. Thats a 90 ppm copier with a heavy fuser. Check the specs in the manual for warmup. It's been a while since i worked on 6002 but from dead cold they were a few minutes from what i remember.

Don't let them turn off the energy save etc or max the counters. Fusers sitting cooking all day just wreck the fuser and adjacent areas. If that machine sits for long long periods and then they expect a quick copy, they have the wrong machine. That thing is not meant for 1-2 page jobs. It's meant to run.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

Normally, when you power up, its about 4 mins to ready. This is in a Law office and there are many attorneys that like to run up to the machine and make some quick copies. This is where their problem is with the warmup time. We replaced a 7503 which is a big unit as well but not the 20 amper. That unit did not do this. Maybe it is the wrong machine for that location.

Per the Product Support Guide the warmup time for the 9003 is 300 seconds vs 20 seconds for the 6503 and 7503. Per the service manual first copy time is also 300 seconds for the 9003. Did your sales personnel not inform the customer of this before delivery?

Seems like they did not. This machine should not have gone out to this location. I'm sure we'll be swapping it out very soon. Thanks for all your input, Laser

Have you tried opening and closing the front door while waiting? I'm not saying that's the solution...

I did not, But they will not want to do this every time they need to make a quick copy. I think we need to get them a smaller unit. (7503) Thanks!

This is normal for the MP 9003. Updating the firmware does help but the fuser is the 'old school' heavy hot roller. The 9003 is designed to be run a bit like a production device, not 'one off. prints.

if you want a fast startup...you need a machine with a heater sleeve system, like mp5054-6054, etc..etc..

Thanks, The unit they had before this was the 7503 with no complaints. I do agree, a 6054 would be a much better fit for their environment.

Yes, the 7503 had a thinner lightweight hot roller hence the quicker warm up.

Change System SP Mode 5305 to Zero. This should allow increased sleep mode times and offer a disable option in user tools.

Thanks, I'll check that out. The plan is to get them another smaller unit. I'll play with this when we get it back to the office. Have a great weekend! Laser801
