    Scanning with MP C306

I'm trying to scan to a CIFS share and for the life of me I cannot get it to work.

The firmware is recent enough to support current versions of the protocol.

Printing via network works fine, copying locally works fine too. Is the scan to share that's not.

Any hints about how to troubleshoot this?

Tried with both, it fails very quickly (would expect a connection timeout or something like that.)

By the way, I only have an ethernet connection running to the machine. Would the touch panel scan app be able to use it?

Why do you want to scan to a CIFS destination. According to TechTarget the CIFS protocol is obsolete. https://searchstorage.techtarget.com...le-System-CIFS

There is also the possible problem that the MP C306 might not support the CIFS (Common Interface File System) protocol. Internet scanning might require the installation of Ricoh Integrated Cloud Environment (ICE). Or the use of some other cloud file system that allows installing as a local drive on a computer such as Google drive.

Technically, CIFS and SMB are the same protocol, though CIFS is now generally as referring to SMB1 or early versions of Samba. Every now and then you'll still hear someone refer to SMB as CIFS, which may be the case here.

Double check the permissions on your shared folder, as well as the user account: permissions for NTFS need to be at least read/write to scan to a folder, and the MFP needs to be using local computer or domain credentials to connect to the folder: you can't use a Microsoft account as the user. If you're using any other OS beyond Windows then you may need to adjust a few other things in your config files.

Assuming he is correct about the F/W levels being recent enough to be compatible with latest version of Windows, then perhaps try using the scan to folder configuration tool to help you out:

                  What are your firmware versions?

Most likely you are scanning via SMB v1.0 which as we know was/is a security risk & was blocked by MS with an update.

I would have to agree with Copier Tech, the firmware probably needs to be updated. Even if you think that it is recent enough, update it anyway. Another thing, make sure that the shared folder is set up properly. See if you can access that shared folder from another computer on their network using the same credentials as you are using on the copier. Try using their domain name as part of the username: domain\username. Also try using the IP address on the PC that is hosting the shared folder instead of using the host name: \\192.168.1.24\scans

IMHO it is more a tool for help the tech. I would not trust it in the hands of the typical end user. Maybe their IT department but I have seen a few idiots there as well.

I have batch script doing this thanks to member here. And I heard that Kyo and Ricoh have a tool for that purpose. Brother has built it in full driver package which is pretty cool if it works which is the case most of the times In any way it's good for techs to understand the process whether tools work or not.

MY apologies for the delay. It's not working up to this date, firmware seems to be new enough.

It seems name resolution is broken.

I wonder if NETBIOS has something to do, I can't find an explicit configuration to disable it and force DNS.

It seems name resolution is broken.

I wonder if NETBIOS has something to do, I can't find an explicit configuration to disable it and force DNS.
On the computer make sure that in the Advanced TCP/IP Settings on the WINS tab that the NetBIOS setting is either Default or Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Name resolution is often through NetBIOS.
