[Dead] MP6500 dead with power button lit and fan onky

    Good afternoon people.

I've got a MP6500 (yep, old) dead, with only the power button lit and the controller fan running.

After much fiddling, found out that if I disconnected cn200 from the IOB the screen would turn on.

Further searching found out that a board component was burned.

My question is: someone who had this can tell me if there could be something else damaging the board? Or could this just be an hara-kiri from this particular samurai board?

Do you have the point to point diagram? You need to see what the cn200 connector leads to and check those components.

It looks like the 5v supply. I don't think anything external will damage the board.

You could also keep that connector feeding the board and test if with some other removed it turns on the panel.

Check FU103 on the PS. 5v supply to the PFC, BCU and ADF. In reference to connector CN117 which is where CN 200 ends up at. IF my old ass eyes are reading the P2P correctly.

I have seen chips blown like that by a short. Has anyone ever dropped screw and failed to retrieve it?

LOL. I dropped a screw into the live PS on a MP7500. It sounded like a Pachinko machine for a second before it shorted. A chip blew completely off the board with a loud pop, followed by a little bit of fire and quite a bit of smoke. Not good.

First thing I did. Goes to the PSU, but it was already the one from another machine.

Tried that. No luck. Will try to go back with a couple of IOB boards from old donor machines, if I can find two (in case the first one blows up too).

First thing I did was check the fuses. Also tried replacing the PSU and the controller box, until I found out this.

Well, the machine was working when it happened, according to the customer. The machine jammed mid-job, then the customer removed the jam. Then the machine kept complaining that the front door was opened (it wasn't) and then a burnt smell and dead machine.

I was wondering if at the time of the breakdown the machine had printing problems or particular malfunctions , should I also check the power switch, updated fw?

According to the customer, everything was fine. Main switch (left side inside the door) was replaced along with door switches.

Haven't been able to update firmware or anything, as it never completely boots up - or, when it does, it errors out.

Funny, I have encountered many Martini models with multiple missing board mount screws in the upper portion of the machine and found a lot of screws on harness bundles and bottom plates. All it takes is for just 1 of them to find it way to behind the power supply. One time I even found both a screw and a spring inside a brand b=new machine we were unboxing.

And if I talk about the numerous paper clips and attaches scattered all over the place, how many headaches ...
