    Ricoh 2004 - Problems - Loading Toner

    Good morning everyone.
I have a problem with a Ricoh 2004. Here is the following:
On this ricoh the PCDU was changed 1 month ago. The pcdu has been changed completely. Drum plus Development group.
Last week the customer called me and told me that he had run out of toner. Put in new toner, and despite this, the printer after self-check still gave out of toner. Turning it off and on again, the printer gave toner loading for about 4 minutes, and then gave the toner empty message.
Note: The same toner on another printer works fine There is toner inside the PCDU. There is a large amount of toner in the final hole Once the PCDUs were removed and reinserted, the printer started printing again. If you print in color, however, they come out like this with these blue vertical bands:: The pcdus are inserted correctly

Sounds like the toner pump has gone bang, if you cheat the front door and watch the bottle does it twitch slightly then stop rotating?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

if there is still toner in bottle my bet is on a failed toner supply coil.

if the complete PCDU was replaced due to a seized dev unit its guarenteed to have backed up and twisted it off.

these also sometimes twist off when toner end detect is disabled and the toner runs dry.

what i don't understand why that blue bands. The problem was with the black toner.
Can I try to reinitialize the pcdu in spmode? I noticed that inside the pdcu, in its final hole, there is a large amount of toner, as if it were all full, but the pcdu is brand new, less than a month old. If the pump is broken, no toner should even reach the PDCU

have you tried turning the dev unit by hand?

Banding like that is usually caused by a dirty charge roller. the dirty roller is often caused by a build up of waste toner mixed with lubricant powder in the drum unit. This could be a result of excessive amount of color printing for what the model is designed to do.

This is a common issue. When the dev unit / PCDU fails the toner backs up & damages the hopper feed coil.

Replace the hopper of the colour that is calling for toner this will resolve the issue.

Good evening Thank you all for the support We picked up the printer and here is the defect. How was this possible? Once I replace the black toner hopper do I need to throw any SP? Do I have to do any procedure? Thanks again

I'd say it's flimsy construction - happens every now and then with different models but it's way lass often compared to the failing pumps during the first MPC2800 era LOL

You know, the use of original consumables and constant maintenance will lead to less serious problems

Ricoh were supposed to have addressed this issue by modifying the hopper but we are still seeing them break on the new IMC range.

New hopper fitted Once the printer has booted, do I need to launch any SP?
Do I have to reinitialize the PDCU?
If I look at the black PCDU, the toner almost fills the entire development group, this was due to the old malfunctioning hopper.
Thank you all again for the support
