Luca and slim, thank you, those flow charts are exactly what I was looking at. Granted I stopped short, I can revisit that.

But if changing the serial number works I will do that first, I'll let you know what I find to be the issue or solution

Just replace the controller board & remember to swap the NVram & make sure you order the correct CTL (ex / non ex)

I didn't read correctly that you needed information for the issue of serial number vs controller, yes, you must necessarily match the serial numbers from sp, otherwise it will give you sc995-01.
