Ricoh MP C3300

Hi All!
I have a Ricoh MP3300 that has stopped being able to pull paper from any of the internal trays. The side bypass tray works great still. As soon as the copier tries to pull from any of the internal trays, it immediately says there is a paper jam but it hasn't even tried to pull a sheet yet. I'm assuming there is a simple fix to this - maybe a paper sensor somewhere that is stuck or something?

P.S. - I've been a mobile tech for a few other types of equipment so I have no problem working on this, but I have not ever touched a copier before. So I feel I want to ask here before I jump in and makes things worse!

In the meantime, I pulled the back of the machine off, and the first PC board. It looks like there's another sheetmetal cover and yet another board to take out before I can get to the motor(s). I wonder if there is a way to troubleshoot the motor ahead of time? Obviously I don't want to purchase a motor to swap it in just to see if it works without knowing that's the problem. But of course with all the boards pulled, I certainly can't test the motor either. OR, is there a troubleshooting procedure in the service manual that I'll find?

Ok guys, I've been puttering with this thing a bit now, and I have determined that the first rollers that touch the sheets in the paper trays are spinning. In tray #1 - The first roller to touch the sheets isn't grabbing at all, just spinning on top of the stack of paper. In tray #2, the first roller does grab a sheet, but as soon as the sheet gets to the second set of rollers (with a top and a bottom roller) even though they are both spinning, the paper stops abruptly at that point. This one really confuses me, as the paper is starting to move in the proper direction from the first roller, then it hits two more rollers going in the same direction and stops moving for some reason. I'm sure there's a simple explanation here but I'm at a loss. Do I need to simply clean all these rollers? If so, what type of cleaner should I use on them? Should I specifically NOT clean them because it will remove the "stickiness" they have? Should I spray them with contact cement? Kidding, on that last one of course....

I feel like I'm close to the answer here, please let me know your insightful pointers!! Thanks all!

Since the machine is not the latest model on the market, why not start with the simplest thing, that is, replace the 3 paper pick-up rollers?

Agreed, but I tried the even simpler thing first! I caught some YouTube vids where people were cleaning the rollers with Simple Green. So I cleaned all of them with SG and Lo-and-Behold one tray started working completely and the other one began to at least start to pick up the first sheet - although that one still doesn't fully feed. But I think that has at least narrowed everything down to the rollers being the issue.

I for sure thought that it was something major - the strange part is that all the trays started messing up at the same time. The only thing I can think of is that we have a laser cutter in the shop here and it makes a bunch of metal dust - one day a while ago I caught one of our guys cutting with the exhaust fan off, and the whole shop, including the office, was full of nasty metal dust. I guess if all the rollers were already pretty dirty and almost not working, that dust infiltration could have caused them all to get covered at the same time. Certainly shows that you should ALWAYS start with the very basics, even if it doesn't seem like that could be the issue!

Now I need to find a source for the replacement rollers, and figure out how to change them! At least I am on the path to correct it, and save this dinosaur machine!!

Just remove the paper cassette and stick your flashlight in there, pop off a few plastic clips and slide the rollers out, really very simple.

try to clean (even with a finger) the sensor that I have framed in the mirror, there are 2 of them, one for each pick-up station, and check the roller rubbers that they are not smooth, they must have wrinkles, clean them with alcohol, it should at least work for a few prints, to understand if they need to be changed
