[CQ] Band of Spots when Scanning on an Ricoh MP 7000

    Band of Spots/Marks when Scanning
    Hi All:
Attaching 3 samples to show the problem. I'm stumped with this but am considering replacing Optical components like the CCD etc.
The problem occurs when doing 11 x 17 and LGL on glass or ADF, or when doing Multiple LTR originals in ADF. Also shows up when scanning a LGL or 11x17 into the Doc server and then viewing/zooming it on the screen.
See the difference between 11x17 and Lgl on the glass, the 11x17 shows the band of spots about halfway down but the LgL shows lines of dots at the trail edge. Always same place on 11x17 and LGL but moving when using LTR.
The problem does not happen when printing from the network or printing internally like the SMC reports.
It does not happen also when doing a single LTR original on glass or adf.
Full PM done - Drum, Dev, Itb, Cors, Fuser, optics cleaned, CCd adjustments done, then formatted Hdd and upgraded firmware, problem still exists.
Thank you in advance for any tips.

Those are definitely digital artifacts and not related to the engine process, you can see a pattern to them. 3 things I would look at - IPU board, BICU which has the Memory controller and the DRAM (this is where the scanned images are stored for processing before printing, not the HDD) or the scanner harness (maybe a crack or something that is inducing noise as it moves).

I retract the scanner harness, i was thinking of something else (bad harnes would make the lamp flicker). The SBU (ccd) sends the analog signal to the memory bd where it is compressed and stored to be modified by the IPU. Somewhere in that process those artifacts are being induced. You can print test patterns from the different boards that might narrow it down. I would clean the contacts on the boards, harnesses and dimm first and reseat before replacing anything.

Update - the problem was fixed by replacing the system box. I did not have a chance to narrow it down but the faulty part may have been the Main controller, IPU, Motherboard or one of the memory Dimms (most likely).
          I will be troubleshooting later.
Test prints didnt show anything and reseating all the dimms didint work either.
          Thank you teebee1234

I have had this and it was the dimms on motherboard. they sit on opposite sides.

Thanks Apump, the dimms are the first and easiest parts that i will replace to see if the "artifacts" disappear.

I had that problem on 2 different machines. The first time was one of the 2 dimms on the mother board like Apump and the second time was the IPU.

My plan is to try the Dimms first then the IPU, then main controller and lastly the motherboard. One of these should fix the issue and thanks for all the replies.
