    MX3501N Color

    Hi guys,

I got 2 MX3501 in the same building both having a lot of PPD1_S2 (tray 1 has letter head so tray 2 is plain paper). I was there a month or so ago and reset the counters and in a period of 6k copies it has jamed about 18 times at PPD1. I have cleaned the transport rollers before, sensor seems to flip on and off ok in sim 30-1. Paper feed rollers should not need replacing yet but they have also been cleaned.

They were complaining about duplex jamming, i ran about 100 pages and no jams.

    Any thoughts?

    Copier has about 100k on it. I attached a 22-6 and 23-2

    Hey Lawrence,

First off... your firmware is out of date. That has been updated 3 times since your version currently installed. This is not the cause of your jams, but definitely worth mentioning.

Your tray rollers seem ok with that count. This code is usually associated with either very dirty vertical transport rollers, a problem with the PS/Rego unit or a timing problem with the PF drive unit (tray1 & 2). Either CPFD or PPD1 jams can definitely be caused by a faulty PF clutch within the PF drive unit. You wouldn't think so as the paper has passed further through, but I have solved many jam issues with a new PF drive unit. Also check the clear mylar on the tray. I've seen alot of these become seriously bent upwards, causing a feed timing problem. Reshape or trim the edges if it appears damaged.
PPD2 codes are associated with blade flip, phase sensor trouble, finisher exit tray lift trouble etc etc, so PPD1 is always more of a paper feeding issue on those machines.

Just been to a MX2700N with the same codes.... almost continuously.

Found a very small piece of label stuck inside the PS/rego unit, under one of the guides before the main rego rollers. You could hear the lead edge hitting something, but it was so small that the lead edge wasn't damaged in any way.

I've seen this before and forgot to include it on my last post about this subject. (PS/Rego unit is same part number on Pastel 1's and C-Jupiter 1's).

Remove the PS/rego unit and have a really good look at it. To see it clearly, you need to remove it and view the paper path from underneath.

Found that problem with labels multiple times. Labels are not created equal and you have check which ones are color copier friendly. Avery 5160 labels are not for color machines, found that out multiple times. I have also seen them get stuck on transfer belts, and you will know when it happens.

Oh yeah.... labels on the primary belt....... seen it hundreds of times now.

Client purchases new box of labels that say 'Inkjet/Copier compatible'..... guess what....... that doesn't mean color copier! Even using correct BPT and PC driver settings for labels, they will still peel off. Too much heat in the color machine fusers does not help the situation, with the labels just peeling straight off. Avery makes a good color laser compatible label, which I recommend to all clients using labels (after I have given them a royal spray for using the wrong ones!)
