    MX2700N Red Line

We are getting a red line only when printing from memory or from a PC in Auto color mode. The firmware is up to date. We tried new RAM per the hotline. It only does it on the mono pages. The line shows a void on the scan, but there is not one. It is front to rear, not paper moving direction. Any input appreciated.
    Thanks,

Do I understand you correctly? It prints a red (magenta?) line crossfeed direction only when printing in monochrome (black & white) or Auto Color mode?

This sounds like someone is punking you. Does the paper in the tray have the red lines? On a monochrome print there should be no magenta primary or transfer charge, so at least theoretically it's impossible to have magenta image. It's nearly pure magenta (C: 0, M:100, Y: 77, K:2). Variation as a result of the scan could account for the rest.

Is there a tear in the primary transfer belt that might be snagging on the transfer cleaning blade, Then dumping some transfer waste on the belt? Wierd! =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

That's what I thought also. Technically, I believe the primary transfer belt is not even in contact with the CMY drums during mono printing. It only does it on the mono pages when printing in auto color mode. Black & white is fine as well as full color mode. I'm baffled !!

Check the LSU shutter using sim codes with the front door cheated to make sure they are moving. We had problems with them not opening in a dirty enviroment so we locked them open for a experiment. Every now and then we would see Color lines (CMY) on the prints/copies. I think ours went into the voids but this looks like the exact line we got. It's like the color laser diode fires every now and then when it expects the shutters to be closed. We usually were able to reproduce it more often using legal or ledger but did see it happen on letter on longer runs.

The edge voids are there so the line is electrically created so it looks like the magenta laser firing

The line does go edge to edge. It was cut off when I scanned it in. The line is very clean & is definitely coming from a laser. Main charge lines are much fuzzier and would be in the paper moving direction, not front to rear frame.

I've seen this....... a long time ago though.

It was a faulty DIMM2 memory module (512Mb - System memory). I changed the system memory with the copy memory from DIMM3 and the problem turned into an E7-06 corrupt copying job (data scrambled on page). Yet all memory R/W tests passed OK.

Which memory did you change Tony?

Just something to go on. It cant be a shutter problem, but a long shot would be the MFP after ensuring memory is OK.

We tried swapping system & copy memory. Then I ordered new memory (@$180). We tried the memory in both slots & it didn't make a difference. We did have trouble with this machine & had to replace the memory when it was new. I guess we're looking at a board this time.

Just an update, nothing has worked so far. Tried an MFP PWB and a LSU along with the memory. I've emailed out Sharp service rep. We'll see what happens next...................
