al-1651cs .."check spf/rspf" run OC float level 41,6 but get err after execution

Customer called with message of jam and spring off machine. I went there thinking spring on fuser gate but saw it was pressure spring on front of pickup unit on ADF. I had left screws off cover or that would not have happened. After reinstalling spring I got "check spf/rspf" message and performed OC float level sim 41/06 but result was err preceded by previous value of 5280 or 5280 err.
I thought I was supposed to do another simulation which was possibly supposed to be executed first but didn't have manual and decided to leave and return tomorrow. Am I supposed to do shading sim first or is it a matter of cleaning underside of doc feeder and checking optical unit for something irregular. Also I guess I should make sure scanner is going out far enough.
Please give input as call is at a distance and I just delivered machine last week and it was working well and has only 7k on it.Frank/ActionPhotocopy

It looks for the black lines on the outside of the white plate on the feeder to know it's closed. Either clean the optics (outside edges) or makes sure the lines are still there.
    Hope that helps !

Thank you Tony. That should be useful. I have an Al-1661cs that I use myself and will take the doc feeder with me tomorrow so I will have whatever I need. Thanks Chad I tried the Simulation with and without blank sheets of paper on the glass. Of course if the lines are blocked by the white sheet of paper then i guess you would be defeating the purpose and preventing scanner from seeing the black lines.
I will report back with hopefully good news tomorrow. Frank

I would suggest that you also pull the shaft that the scanner runs on and clean it and the bushings of the scanner. It tends to get gummy and binds the scanner assy. This seems to cause scanner to arrive at reference area but not get correct reading. Also as others said to clean mirrors.

Cleaned scanner mirror and scanner rail both glasses and ran 41 /06 which executed successfully. Ran copies on platen and on adf and copies on adf had shady background and a few lines. ran 53/08 but got error after execution. Ran again with adf up and got sucessful execution. Then ran 41/06 again. Copies came out fine after that. Frank
