Should You Sit Out Thanksgiving and Other Holidays This Year?
Families weigh the options and risks of gathering, through a pandemic lens
With cases of COVID-19 rising across the country, Thanksgiving and other holidays will look very different — likely much smaller — this year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has classified big Thanksgiving gatherings as high-risk activities. Anthony Fauci, one of the nation's top COVID-19 medical experts and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has warned that coronavirus cases could spike if people travel out of town and celebrate indoors. He says he's not having Thanksgiving with his own children, who live in different states, because they'd have to travel by plane and risk exposure to COVID-19. And he's warning others to be very careful about holiday celebrations.
"Given the fluid and dynamic nature of what's going on right now in the spread and uptick of infections, people should be very careful and prudent about social gatherings, particularly when members of the family might be at a risk because of their age or their underlying condition,” Fauci told CBS News. “Namely you may have to bite the bullet and sacrifice that social gathering unless you're pretty certain that the people you're dealing with are not infected.”
As families begin planning for Thanksgiving and other holidays, they're weighing their options and risks through a pandemic lens.Comment

Minks appear to be ‘reservoir’ for coronavirus, WHO official says
CDC’s ensemble forecast projects up to 266,000 US Covid-19 deaths by November 28
A World Health Organization (WHO) official has praised Denmark’s decision to cull the country’s herd of mink, saying the animals appear to be a good reservoir for coronavirus and have infected people with a mutated strain.
“It seems that mink are susceptible to the virus and quite good at becoming a reservoir for the virus,” Catherine Smallwood, a senior emergency officer at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Europe said Thursday.
“So there is a risk of course that this mink population could contribute in some way to the transmission of the virus from minks into humans and onwards from humans to humans.”
She said the transmission of Covid-19 from humans to animals and back to humans is not new. However, she said Danish researchers had tracked mutations of the virus in the mink.
“We're of course very interested in this specific variant and then the genetic changes that are being reported, and we need to understand more about it but it doesn't change right now what's going on, epidemiologically.”
On Wednesday, the Danish Prime Minister announced the findings of the research and that all mink would be culled.
WHO European regional director Hans Kluge on Thursday described the decision as “commendable,” especially given the economic impact it will have.Comment

Re: Latest on the Corona Virus
Joe Biden plans Monday to name a 12-member task force to combat and contain the spread of the coronavirus, sources tell Axios.
Why it matters: By announcing a COVID task force even before unveiling his senior White House staff or a single cabinet appointment, Biden is signaling that addressing the coronavirus will be the immediate priority for his transition, and then his potential administration.Comment

Re: Latest on the Corona Virus
1. Control of the Senate has not been secured by either the Republicans nor Democrats yet. Not until a runoff election in Georgia in Jan 2021
2. McConnell is getting old 78 and showing some health issues, He may not last four more years.
3. President Biden can accomplish much of what he needs by Executive Order.
4. President Biden can accomplish much of what he needs by putting qualified, experienced scientific people in place.
5. Biden will have the support of 60% of the American people. Another 20% will eventually recognize that the Trump propaganda machine is all baloney and will tune out what remains of it.
6. Biden will work with all State governors to make wearing face masks mandatory.
7. Hopefully a FDA approved vaccine and therapeutics will arrive in 2021.Comment
