Yes something similar happened to me, except that it was the "Mail Room/ Copy Room" Door instead of the main door

Yeah, CF comes right after SNAFU (or is it before?).

Setting up scan to email with AT&T as the ISP can be a major pain if you have an older MFP that does not support SMTP over SSL. AT&T blocks port 25. They also tend to block all other standard SMTP ports to any SMTP servers other than their own. I have found a few email providers who do allow using port 80 for SMTP.

Ya, Usually at that point I recommend scan to SMB or Scan to FTP, I use an open source ftp server called FileZilla (there is a client version too) If they absolutely need to get it working as e-mail, I usually recommend a SMTP Service like JangoSMTP, for a nominal fee can serve as their SMTP Server (for large attachments) some other services will allow up to 10000 or 12000 e-mails with a small attachment per month for free)

It's possible to set up Gmail as an SMTP server without SSL. Google it and see for yourself!

Not if the ISP blocks port 25. The non-SSL server, aspmx.l.google.com uses port 25. Also you can only send to other gmail accounts.

One email provider that uses port 80 is secureserver.net. The customer can set up an account with them.

You do have a point regarding the port 25 blocking issue. Up here in Canada the port isn't blocked, but the general access to ISP mail server is blocked through port 25. For an ISP to outright block all usage of port 25 is pretty ridiculous.

A lot of the ISP seem to think that by blocking port 25 they are cutting down on spam and emails containing malware. They refuse to realize that most spammers and malware writers have their own SMTP servers.

Yep that was the issue was AT&T was blocking port 25....which I told the customer numerous times but they kept blaming my machine...and I'm sure you fellow techs have been in that rodeo....

AT&T in most areas also blocks ports 465 and 587 to any server other than their own. If they are using AT&T as their email provider, the MFP must be new enough to support SMTP over SSL.

Your sitting there with the copier completely apart and the EU comes up and asks "Is it fixed yet?"

And of course my answer is " Yes mam/ sir, these are just extra things that I took out"

You know things like Toner, Paper, Fuser,.... things it doesn't need to make a copy!!1

                          LOL

Had a customer today complain of black copies.
I went out and reset the machine and out came fine copies.
I wasn't 2 blocks away and she called saying it was doing it again.
I walked in the door and you would think I killed her dog or something.
I made some copies and they were fine.
She breaks out a couple of 20's and put them on the glass.
I said, "I am sorry, you can't copy money on a machine with a color scanner."
She yells at me "I don't see why not, on my old machine I could."
I lifted the DF and showed her the sticker next to the glass that states not to copy money.

She told me she wasn't counterfeiting money, just copying it.

I told her that the machine thinks she is, just try folding it in half and you should be ok.
But I need the serial # of the bills.
I threw up my hands and asked to see her boss or should I just call the Dept of the Treasury.

                            Problem solved.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

all she got was black copies? Most machines shut down and give a code and then life gets interesting with some high level tech and govt authorities...You can copy money on a color scanner but it has to be copied in B/W and lower than 75% or higher than 125% if I remember correctly...but yeah I just tell people you don't copy money....EVER!

I guess that changes from manufacturer to manufacturer. All I've seen on my Sharps and Ricohs is a blacked out image, no shutdown or anything. I'm not sure if Canon does, but to my knowledge it's similar with them in that it only blacks out the copies.

What brand shuts down and codes out?
