Re: Gun Control
So every single gun control ammendendment went down in flames a couple of days ago.. it seems that even if "90%" of the american public wants higher restrictions on gun control, they don't want it done via changing or removing the 2nd ammendment...Proof positive that the needs/wants of the few, still don't outway the needs/wants of the many...If the 2nd ammendment is to be changed then it's gonna have to be done the old fashioned way...75% of the states ratifying it..god bless america..Let the states impose their own rules on gun sales and ownership if they can get them passed through the state system...I think this is a definate blow to the criminal element...makes up for the recent south Florida incident where a K-9 hit on a residents property and they arrested the guy for growing or making drugs..Since Florida classifies it's K-9s as law enforcement officers, the dealer got out of the charges by stating that the "law enforcment officer" had no search warrent and the FLorida judicial system agreed with him. Since we refuse to put criminals away for their offenses, at least we can keep our guns to defend against them..BTW the Boston idiots/terrorists used pressure cookers to make their bombs...I think the next law we should try to pass is to outlaw pressure cookers..Emujo
NRA ardor, clout overwhelm gun-control groups, for now
As Wednesday's vote showed, the NRA can count on their 4.5 million members to leap into action when it counts. Gun-control groups have yet to match that type of enduring intensity.
The NRA's stance against expanding background checks to people who buy guns over the Internet and at gun shows, reversing its earlier support, put the NRA at odds with 80 percent to 90 percent of the public.
But as Wednesday's vote showed, a motivated minority that cares passionately about an issue often carries more weight in Washington than a majority that is not quite as focused on that single issue.
Gun-rights groups have donated $596,000 to the sitting members of the Senate since 2007, while gun-control groups have donated only $5,000.
The NRA and other gun-rights groups "are perennially among the most powerful interest groups in Washington,"Comment

Re: Gun Control
With the push for gun control in a holding pattern on Capitol Hill, gun-control groups are vowing to meet Obama's challenge to beat the NRA at its own game.

they figured out that enhanced background checks only affect law abiding citizens, the regular background checks were perfectly suitable if properly enforced, and enhanced background checks wouldn't affect criminals with guns even a little bit, and came to the conclusion that this was a waste of time.Comment

It is time to tell what all Americans know. Our founding fathers did not want us armed to fight off a tyrannical government. They knew that one day we would need Canada's natural resources...and not want to pay for them...just sayin. The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Or,
they figured out that enhanced background checks only affect law abiding citizens, the regular background checks were perfectly suitable if properly enforced, and enhanced background checks wouldn't affect criminals with guns even a little bit, and came to the conclusion that this was a waste of time.
Obama said he considered the loss "just Round 1. " Senators "caved to the pressure and they started looking for an excuse — any excuse — to vote no," Obama said.
Even if the gun control bill successfully passed the Senate, it would have likely never pass the Republican controlled Congress. The Republican party historically has been pro gun and for the last four years very anti-Obama. Public approval ratings of Congress have been at an all time low for months now.Comment

Re Background checks ....
Obama condemns 'shameful' Senate gun control loss - World - CBC News
"The proposal would have required background checks for all transactions at gun shows and online. Currently they must occur for sales handled by licensed gun dealers."
... so now any US citizen can order an assault rifle online, have it delivered to their door like a box of shoes from Amazon.com and do with it whatever they want for the good or harm to society. No need to know if the person knows how to handle a gun, is a criminal, a psychotic lunatic or a straw purchaser who's main motive is to resell to anyone for a profit. How is that a victory for America? Polls show that 90% of Americans were in favor of enhanced background checks.Comment

Re: Gun Control
SalesServiceGuy, You can post as much as you want on this topic, but where are you going with it. I get the feeling that most of the people reading this thread just don't care. I am by no means right wing, more independent than anything, and have 5 guns in the house right now. I also could care less about background checks, as I have to get one to have a DOD ID card, and every time I go to the base and it is scanned, my background is checked by the fact that if I am wanted for anything, I will be detained at that point.
As far as buying and selling assault rifles through the mail, Having lived in the country most of my life, I did not know that was a problem. People I know have been doing that for decades.
I think that the hot topic issues are little more than a distraction to keep people from paying attention to other issues. Like a fertilizer warehouse in Texas that had 1000 times more than they should have, didn't disclose it to anyone, including local firefighters. Some fertilizers get volatile when wet. When talking about public safety, isn't that an elephant in the room. If I were a terrorist or just a nut., I bet I could get fertilizer and diesel fuel in your country.
Does it go too far to call the West Fertilizer Corporation a terrorist corporation for its actions that led to the explosion that has killed at least 14 people so far, a number that could still go higher, and destroyed much of the town of West, Texas? Perhaps it goes too far to use such […]
And now to take the other side of the issue... When gun owners take the position that new laws only hurt the honest legal gun owner because the criminal will find a way to get a gun or weapon, I can assume the person saying that also supports the legalization of all drugs...because they have been illegal for almost a century and the users still get them, so what's the use...Last edited by fixthecopier; 04-22-2013, 10:59 AM.The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Re: Gun Control
Had to comment on the outrageousness of this statement, especially so soon after it happened. Did you know they're also using pipe bombs? Nails and ball bearings as shrapnel as well? How about the shoot out that followed at MIT with their legally registered guns they got without a background check? Thankfully one of the scumbags is confirmed as dead, the other one still at large.
I understand the blah-blah-blah my rights blah-blah-blah BUT IF blah-blah-blah defend myself - but seriously. Time and a place... Time and a place...Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment
