I just learned that if I drive over 55 MPH on glare ice, I may need a tow truck. At least if the cross winds are ten to twenty miles an hour. That is a weird feeling when the car starts going in a direction I don't want it to, but feels good when I get it under my control again.

I had a friend in high school who had a Chevy Corvair. It was rear engine motor and if you did not load sandbags in the vfront luggage compartment, the front wheels could lift off the ground at somewhere between 60 and 65 MPH. Gave you a real strange feeling to drive down the road with a gusty side wind and the front end would bsck and forth without having to move the steering wheel.

The problem goes back into Texas and Nevada, with Vegas in danger of going dry. Texas is trying to sue Mexico and Oklahoma over water and so on. So if we can spend money on things like oil pipelines and such, isn't it ironic how states next to oceans are going dry because nobody wants to invest in places that take the salt out of salt water and use it to feed lakes and rivers.

I only had one snow day, and that was back in elementary school. I want to say it was around '97/98... Huge blizzard that lasted for 24-48 hours, several feet of snow.

Later on in life I found out that was a one time thing, as we got the same amount of snow over 72+ hours coupled with -50 weather several times and the schools didn't close. The only ones excused from class were the ones who couldn't get in on account of the buses not being able to start below -40. Quite the rip off if I do say so myself!

Well another winter storm passed through. I'm watching the tale end of it now, snow flurries coming down. Made for an interesting ride home from work.

While others rushed out to buy milk and bread. Some got a day or two off. We had to work, mostly got cold rain. This is probably the last one for the season. We'll be 65 by weekend, so maybe next year.

                Oh well...

Here's a picture of my driveway from before the last snow that went through this area. Its about four inches taller on either side now.
The fun part is that the temps are supposed to be 30-40 degrees (F) next week, between melt floods and the fog it is going to be a blast.

-42 today, fortunately no wind to really add the bite that makes it so awful. Fog so thick there's maybe 20 feet of visibility.

Not a day to hit the roads.

Was in an elementary school the other day, and outside recess was cancelled because it was "too cold" at 25F. Good lord. Am I a bad parent because my kids stood out at the bus stop that morning - AND SURVIVED?

If anyone happens to have SiriusXM satellite radio or enjoys funny talk shows, Covino and Rich host a "guys show" on channel 104 every day from 10-1 eastern; every Tuesday they talk about what they refer to as the "pussification of America". I think this would fall straight into that category.

For anyone curious, 25F is equivalent to -3C; or as we Canadians refer to it, "beach weather". I don't care what the weather is like the rest of the year, if someone is complaining about -3C being "too cold" then that person needs to develop some thicker skin and stop being such a damn pussy about a little bit of a cool breeze.

The snowstorm has so far left me at home for two days. Tuesday it snowed all day, but everything was open because the roads were warm from the day before and nothing stuck to them. Then a hard freeze that night. The shop text me with a 2 hour delay even though the radar showed it on top of us about to hit. It was starting as I got in my truck, got to work and manager ask what I was going to do since the base was closed. I replied "That's what I am asking you, since you assign the calls." She says "You can go home if you want." In my mind I am thinking, "You could have fucking told me that before I drove up here but I bit my tongue as last years performance reviews haven't been done yet.I left and it's coming down pretty heavy. By the time I had driven 2 miles the surface of a 5 lane road was solid white. I turned around and went back to get my daughter, who works there at the front desk. She had a small car, and I wanted to follow her home. It was 1 lane home going 15mph, took 45 minutes to travel what usually takes 15. The frozen pavement turned solid white and you couldn't see the lane markings. Snowed for hours, then ice on top of that for hours. Just looked outside and it's doing it again. I am so bored.

You are so right about the "pussification", that same day during the announcements in that school, they were going on and on about "drops in the bucket" and Johnny getting one because he let Timmy use the hoolahoop without arguing, and Janey getting one for helping Mrs. Smith clean up her spilled coffee without even being asked to help, and thank you for being such wonderful friends and neighbors, etc., etc., etc. It was all I could do not to vomit.
