Now when I went to Lanier school for those things they were freaky about using anything but old drum scrapers on those mag roller grooves.

Said it would change the developer bias and make it start dusting sooner.
Not that they needed an excuse to start dusting toner!

Who changes drum scrapers on those things? Besides, they told me to use a wadded up piece of paper to clean the mag roller. Haven't you learned Ricoh engineers never actually have to work on their own products, and therefore don't know a doodly squirt about fixing them. Case in point MP4000/5000 (and anything else that uses that toner/developer.)

        junk copiers

I'd say just about anything Konica, but yeah, the Mita 2020 and Ai3030 have to be way up there. That said, I've worked on just about everything three years or older and I got to say the Toshiba color copiers are about as labor intensive as any I can think of. Damn dirty things and nothing easy to get to. Poor design when you have to yank the finisher off to get to the color guts.

            The biggest POS

Indeed he did! Damned stuff. Although it does kill the pain of fixing dog copiers!! I would love to speak to the guy who decided to put the toner bottles on the bottom left of the ricoh 1350, and the hopper up on the top right!!!!! One can only assume they designed the machine, and forgot about the toner, then found some space and slotted it in! I suppose we can be thankful the toner unit is actually in the machine!!

              All the Mita Kyocera etc.

I worked on just about every copier out there. Mita perfected the "crap" in all their copiers.

It was kinda stupid, but I've really had far less problems with it than I figured I would, and the 1350 / Pro Ex machines are a major improvement. Even the old 850's were fairly reliable - If you replaced the air pump about ever Million, and replaced the air hoses with real vacuum lines from a car parts store (they collapse or the white inner lining peels away from the outer wall)

Ricoh definately has some dogs out there, but I always hated the old 17PPM panasonic machines (Lanier had them as a 6517 / 6720 /etc) and the desktop Sharp machines with the fuser stuck in the hinge of the clamshell??!

                  Biggest POS

I've just moved to a Sharp dealer having spent many many years on Ricoh. Luckily i've no old sharp kit to look after, just new machines and the MX does seem to be a good set up. Fingers crossed.

                    Laniers that were Sharps

I used to have to work on the old Lanier 6714 and 6716.

The 6716 had the neat feature of having the waste toner bottle mounted over the fuser so that the waste toner would harden and it whole thing acted like a big cement mixer.

The 6714 was a special little boat anchor that would among other things, fritz out the developer gears after a while.

                    Lovely..

I actually liked these things, and had fairly good luck keeping them up and running to 250k and beyond.

the 16's on the other hand don't even deserve a decent burial - I wanted to cremate one of these little bastards since I first laid eyes on them. Ever have one wear a hole in the waste auger tube and puke the front cover full...

I have limited experience with copiers. That said, I really hated the Toshiba 3550. I've only had one Toshiba and 3 Xerox machines. The reason I hated the Toshiba is because it would never print correctly. The other reason I hated the Toshiba is because, unlike the xerox machines, it didn't come apart-at least not that I know of. I had to carry this 3 million pound beast up 3 flights of stairs, in a house. Then I had to carry it down again at one point. I almost broke myself both times. I finally gave it away to someone. I was told some Toshiba techs refer to it as a boat anchor.

No the ones I had would catch the coil on the tube befroe it got to that point and throw a code. i would then replace the tube and coil, kinda like on the Lanier 5685.

You got lucky - If you have a leak and your not really careful when you open the front cover... I was no longer caucasian.

Mita's live heat sinks were a great idea. They were at crotch height which was great fun if you had to squeeze between the wall and the copier!

Ricoh 6085 and 7060 we used to cut up beer cans to repair the invertors in those sweet pieces of machinery. What about the Ricoh 5560 we had to send the lens and main board back to Ricoh before we threw them away
