Not only are the forums slowly dying, so are we as experienced technicians. We are a rare breed and fleets of devices that required 10 guys to service only require 5 or less.
I also feel that a lot of dealerships do not emphasize training and hire "bodies" instead of "brains". A well-trained tech is worth 10 part chasers any day of the week. I also see this trend in posts with "technicians" asking how to get into service mode and such. There are just not as many of us left anymore and if dealerships want to stay afloat, they need to train the next generations of techs themselves. Hired an apprentice a few weeks back and this kid is a rock star; smart, inquisitive all the things a good tech should be. In this aspect, I still see hope for the future.
As to the forums, I just ignore the stupidity (unless I choose to be stupid), but it does sucks that they show in the Todays Posts.

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

Like I previously posted most dealers & OEM's are hiring IT people and "trying" to make them field technicians. Problem is "most" of them quit as soon as they get their hands dirty
As for members here asking how to get into service modes, etc. probably most of the time they are end users pretending to be techs. Or they are a tech working on a model that isn't their usual brand.

If that fails, meet me at the pub and we will discuss it.

Maybe we should do a thread in RREE about local favourite foods? What do you think Pete?

Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to try an of the suggestions yet. I'll see if I can locate the new thread and follow up with any updates over there, once they come to fruition.
A Ricoh Service Tech for 7 year. A Konica Minolta Service Tech for 7 years. Now, KM service manager for 4 years.
My Ricoh knowledge is slowly dwindling away at this point. Many things have been lost to time...
