[CQ] Should I upgrade Bizhub C308 firmware?

Hello everyone, nice to meet you. I registered yesterday on this forum and I already learned a lot of things here. Thanks everyone!
I just bought a Bizhub C308 (refurbished) for my office and it have G00-X4 firmware. Should I upgrade to GCK-X4 (last one)? Any big improvement? Is there any protection improvement (regarding compatible cartridges) in the last firmware or there shouldn't be a problem. Worth to upgrade? Thanks.

if it aint broke, dont broke it.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
    The medication helps though...

Thank you mate. You're right, I'll stay on this firmware, I didn't found any issues with the printer yet on this firmware, so....I guess it's better if I want 100% compatibility with all ink, fusors, etc.
I've seen the changelog fixing some things and that's why I asked.

I would say it in a bit different way - don't change it if you don't know what you do why you do it and how to fix it if you break it.
I do update firmwares whenever I can(read always).

A lot of times these include security patches which would be a good idea to install. However, sometimes they can change things that cause issues. In some cases they even add features (TLS1.2 on a 4 series for example). Just be aware that downgrades are possible but usually the settings are lost from the machine after the downgrade. To get around that export the ones you can to a USB stick first.

Beware of special firmwares. Koncia has 2 firmware lines running for each model. The normal release firmware and something they call "special firmware". Just because it's released sooner doesn't mean it's a newer release. The other weird thing they do is release different firmware in different regions. In my region the latest regular firmware for that model is GCR-X4. It's alphabetical (K->R).

Thanks, everyone. I can back it up and save the settings; however, it was completely unconfigured when I bought it. My biggest concern is having compatibility issues with consumables rather than actually breaking it. That's why I asked—I’m not familiar with how Konica handles updates, and I don’t have any changelogs, just the firmware.

It will not lock up your compatible consumables if you're asking about that.
Probably you will do that after using compats for a while.

Just an update, I had no way to update it. It simply didn't detect the firmware on pendrive, it reads it (the dot on the upper right edge) but nothings happens. I tried different size FAT32 pendrives and nothing. I guess I don't have the right version to update, I don't know. It just starts normally.

Is there a folder in the root of the flash drive called "FW0002"? If so were any of the flash drives over 4Gb in size? Konica's implementation of uboot does not like LBA very much. Windows's built in formater will turn on LBA for USB drives larger than 4Gb.

You should have FW0002 on the root of the usb drive. Additionally The current firmware is GCR-X4 7/16/2024.
                        GCK-X4 is 5 firmwares ago 4/17/2023.

Thanks Duplicator, I haven't tried on such a small pendrive, I tried on 8GB pendrive. Yeah, there was a FW0002 folder on the pendrive.

Black Cloud thanks for the details. Unfortunately I don't have that version
Also, my SN is starting with A7PY and everything I find starts with FW_A7PU, so I guess it wouldn't work
