This has been discussed on this forum many times.

    Here is my simple version.....

You can change a less expensive black dev unit into color. Swap over necessary parts/chip from color to black unit. Run 60 halftones in service mode of color you want, around 40 pages you will see black changing to the color. Around 60 pages and black has become color! Keep in mind all developer is black in color, it just "carries" the color toners.

Yes you can replace a colour dev unit with colour by swapping the chip.

Or an easier option, as I do, If you have a depleted colour developer unit then you can simply 'top up' the colour with black.

The chips are the same across C,M,Y,K developer units.

If you just need the developer material, you can order bagged Developer off of Aliexpress. I have DV512 K,C,M,Y when I need it.

The roller is stuck and does not turn

After this intervention, you must initialize the TD sensor so that it does not report a toner concentration error.

Dont need to change the chips, just replace as it is. You only need to replace the rail the chip sits in as its a different shape. Or just use pliers to snap bits off. then run 50 d/s full bleed.

If dv roller doesn't turn then it's time for new dev unit. As discussed above buy a less expensive black dv unit and convert.

I also carry bags of developer powder, one of each color. When I have call that the prints have zebra stripes caused by the loss of developer I add aftermarket developer, then manually add toner in serv mode until level history is around 6.5%, do gradation adj, then run 50-100 pages to make sure level stays at least 6%.
Note: of course the above procedure is after addressing why the dev dumped, i.e. overlife drums, etc. Have done this many times with success, mostly on the 4 series and usually the Cyan that loses dev.
