    C3350i toner issue

    Hi,

The machine was out of yellow toner and customer kept using it a few days for just black. I installed OEM yellow toner. Customer called few hours later that it is throwing C2555 codes (yellow toner code). Had them check the seal tape on new toner and sure enough there was still a piece of tape. They removed it and thought all was good. They called back and still throwing code. Level history staying at 5.38 % even after trying several manually adding yellow toner cycles.
    Thanks for any help

Faded image on copies and prints.
Note: C255X code may also occur.

CAUSE: Image unit is depleted due to a possible poor connection on the HV units or failed image units

SOLUTION: Install firmware version G00-B5 or newer. The latest version firmware is available for download via One Stop Product Support. After installing firmware version G00-B5 or later, follow bulletin 12202. If after applying the steps in bulletin 12202 issue still exists, follow the steps below along with the attached documentation for additional information. Refer to the attached document for more information. To view the PDF, you may need to download a free copy of Adobe Reader®.

    Please perform the following steps.
    1. Remove the HV unit from the machine
    2. Check the contacts to make sure they are straight and not bent that are located under where the board was located, they connect to each unit
    3. On the HV unit gently clean the areas with sand paper or a scotchbrite pad (we have had reports of a substance or coating on the contacts) where the contacts from the inside of the machine connects to the HV unit (sample of coating when removed outlined below).

    4. Reinstall the HV unit in the machine
    5. Power ON the machine and check TCR readings for all colors they should be in the range of 6.00 if they are not, run manual toner add in service mode
    6. After TCR levels are around 6.00 run the machine, It is recommended that the GDI test page be used to make the outputs. confirm the TCR values are staying steady
7 The image units may have to be replaced if the TCR values do not recover or image quality is poor

Thanks for that info. I forgot to post that I had customer do the developer high speed agitation in bulletin 12202 which is usually for new IU's or machines that sat for a while but figured it was worth a shot. But like I posted this machine was working fine until customer ran out of toner and continued to use it for a few days with yellow toner empty. Also going to try a different toner.

In my experience, if the tape was left on the toner, that particular toner chip tells the copier it's empty. Re chip it or use it in another copier as long as the copier hasn't stopped due to empty toner condition.

Apparently if this happens, once you've refitted the toner, open/close the front door - twice, this will make the device add toner. Also turn on engine dipswitch 6, exit the service mode - then open/close the front door a few times. The gauge won't go back up, but apparently the machine will recover

It's a PIA to do with it in the device, as the springs drop out easily, I take it out of the machine and lay it down when taking it apart

                Hi,

Update: I went to this customer today and found that the toner level history for yellow dropped to 4.78 and new yellow toner that I put in yesterday was almost empty. The waste box had mostly yellow toner in it so it's going right into waste box with level going down. So it's adding toner. The other weird thing is I also replaced the K IU yesterday and that level reading was 11.2 and K prints light.
Starting to think these small machines aren't that good!
Tried to do the dev stirring that is addressed in bulletin but machine wouldn't run? Machine has latest FW installed.
I ordered a new Yellow Dev unit.
                Thank again for the help.

You should beat the hell out of them sometimes. High speed agitation isn't panacea. IUs are trash and KM continue to issue firmware updates and bulletins even recently.

A4 KM color is a bit of gambling. As you buy used machines always check error history for C and J codes and be prepared. Good luck buddy.

Have you pulled HV and clean the contacts with scotch brite or a knife? I have seen them have the overspray on them and not cause problems for a while.
