Where does this small spring on a Konica C253 (changing rollers on tray 2 & 3 ) go?

    Hi,

    My first post here!

I have a Konica bizhub C253 and I was changing the orange pickup rollers for trays 2 and 3. After finishing tray 2 I found the attached spring on the floor (I was sitting on the floor by the printer working on it).

I had taken pictures of the innards of the pickup areas but not the entire area, just the rollers and the way they were positioned.

Does anyone know where this spring goes??? I have included pictures with a hex bit to give a sense of the size of the spring.

    Any help would be appreciated.

That spring is for the black plastic paper end actuator. I've left the spring off before and still worked fine. Look at other paper feed unit and you will see where spring goes.

Gravity working in your favor even without spring

Thanks for responding. Tray 3 had a black plastic actuator, though a bit different, and that one didn't have a spring either. I'm even thinking that it might have come off the paper actuator for tray 3 OR 2 and I just happened to notice it when working on tray 2.

Do you by any chance have a picture as to how it fits? I suspected it was the paper actuator and tried to fit it to the swivel arms for it but couldn't figure out how to position it. Thinking further on it, do both hook ends of the spring go around the paper actuator's top and bottom edge, but in a way that tensions the spring and makes the actuator be in the 'hang down' position?

Pictures of the location for the actuators for tray 2 and 3 would be much appreciated as the PDF manuals don't seem to have them.

            Thank you Synthohol!

Is that image for tray 3 or tray 2? It looks like its tray 2 but could you please confirm?

That would be from tray 1 or 2. Tray 3/4/LCT didn't have the spring.

Thank you! Now all I have to do is take out the tray 2 mechanism and put this spring back!

I will post here when it is done.

Yeah gravity still makes it work but the spring makes it faster and more reliable.

So, I was able to get the spring back into position thanks to the parts image. It took a few minutes to figure out how to get the tension into the spring but I got there in the end. Here are the pictures...

Thanks to everyone who chipped in to help! Much appreciated. I haven't tested the printer yet as I am now going to tackle tray 1. That's going to be 'fun'!!

Note: One thing I noticed is how little tension the spring puts on the actuator arm, but its there because when I tilt the tray mechanism so that the flat plane of the arm is horizontal (one side facing up and the other side facing down) it pops out due to the tiny amount of pressure that the spring exerts. Interesting! Konica could have left that spring entirely off and the arm would have still done its job. I wonder how much money they spent on getting that spring just right....

Just to finish up this thread...

I have finished installing the feed rollers on tray 1 and now trays 1 and 2 both work as they should. Even though tray 2 was working the rollers were very smooth and shinny so it would have only been a matter of time before paper jams began happening. Tray 1 wasn't working as the paper would jam every time I tried using that tray. Tray 3 had been done a few days ago but now I need to work on the opening and closing mechanism for it.

I found it extremely satisfying getting tray 1 to work.

Thank you to all who chipped in.
