The charger rollers are like my ex. They go bad.

I'm not sure why the surface of those charger rollers bubble and pit the way they do. My experience has been that if they run long enough, they will go bad. Same rollers in the two and three series.

You can clean them with water (maybe Windex, but I always water) and a rag. But when the bubbles start to appear in the surface, those rollers are goners.

In a pinch, I will clean and swap the bad charger roller with the one in the yellow drum/dev unit until I can get by with a new one. If its not a real bad spot on the charger roller, putting it on yellow can buy you a little time. Especially if the customer isn't running a lot of color.

    But don't wait too long.

If you were to cut into the defective charge roller, you would see that the metal core had rusted, and the resulting arcing burns the rubber. The earlier versions of the charge roller created really cool spider shapes that repeat at 37.5mm intervals, a fun Halloween defect. The later versions of the primary charge roller develop a lump under the surface of iron rust.

I really don't know why the core rusts, but it does. I would suspect that if it were de-greased properly before getting the rubber coating, that probably wouldn't happen. =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Continues to happen despite the cause being found and bulletins to that effect. Frustrating.

I suspect that there's a patent issue here.

I have never ever seen this type of failure on an HP, Lexmark, Konica Minolta, or Canon primary charge rollers. But Kyocera & Ricoh primary charge roller do not seem to last. =^..^=

            Thanks BC. Good to know.

Best way I have found to combat this is to buy the rollers cheap and in bulk.

IIRC they changed the metal coating to nickel under the roller. New ones are better, but not perfect. There's a bulletin for the MC-8350 for the 3 & 4 series machines.
              Hope that helps !

At least on the new style, the rollers do not build up with the "white ozone" as much.

That's right. Buy cheap PCR rollers from AliExpress and change them every 100k-200k

                    Whatevah.

I'm not spending $60+shipping for a roller that wont go the distance.

Maybe I should have said buy less expensive rollers and in bulk.
