    System Error: 0800

I was called out this morning for a PJ on a 3551ci. @ arrival, I found a jam at the registration roller. I cleared the jam and once again it jammed at the regist roller. I tried to feed from other paper source with the same outcome. While testing the PF sources, it threw up a 0800 error. I looked in sim U904 and there were a total of (2) 0800 error codes. U903 showed a total (7) 0100 jam codes.

I looked at my trusty service manual and it said to replace Main PWB. That's all the info that is given in the manual. I'm about an hour from our shop. I drove back and pulled the board. Before I left, though, I decided to look on CTN.com and I ran across a thread that talked about replacing the FUSER. It made no sense to me and I didn't recognize any of the members in the thread. I scrolled down a litte further and KYO-OEM also said to replace the fuser.

So, I headed back to the scene of the crime and replaced the fuser first. It worked like magic. Thank God for CTN.com. I would have been chasing my tail for a while on that one.

Fuser is warm enough to not generate a fuser code, but the MFP knows the fuser isn't ready when the page is on it's way.
Unless I'm 99% sure why I'm going to a call, I jump on and search here first before going out. Makes sense to research before hand to see what you might need.
      Hope that helps !

Good to hear the system works, good job Billy!

IDK if I posted in that thread, so I'll just fill in the gaps here for future reference.

Seems the '1' series was the poster child for this error, and yeah most of the time a fuser replacement would solve it, but not always.

Your experience is the typical behavior: A sheet is prefed to the registration roller prior to completing the 'image stabilization'. If the machine simply cycles for (iirc) about 30 seconds and throws a jam, it is because it could not complete the 'image stabilization' and won't try to feed because it has actually thrown the 0800 code but it doesn't show that until it makes you clear the jam.

You'll often see J000 codes in the log because the machine has been rebooted without clearing the jam on the first try or because the machine didn't have any actual jam data because it's not really a jam.

Now, what exactly 'image stabilization' needs to accomplish is not defined. Certainly the fuser getting to temp is the most common reason, but if not then it has been a random assortment of causes WITHIN the image formation components/PWB which drive them.

You described the symptoms to perfection. I'm glad it was the fuser and not one of the other components within the image formation section. Sounds like it could be problematic to troubleshoot. Thanks for filling in the gaps. I ALWAYS learn something from you. You really are the Print Whisperer.

            It's never the Main Board

NP, the first time I saw this it was on a 4001i (when they were new) and it was a 7-hour drive to get there.

TBH I don't even remember if it was the fuser or not, just the (specifically) weird behavior.

Here you can see one reason for J0100_C0800
                  JAM100_C0800.jpg
Paper would driven to the reg roller and system is asking 2nd paper feed if all components are ready /fuser temp, enough toner, etc.
no feedback from fk thermistor and J0100 is coming up.
After 5 times J01xx you will get C0800.
